Manager

"Sorry. I can't allow you to become the basketball team's manager."

[Name]'s heart crumbled into a million pieces as a knife like pain shot throughout her body. "B-But why?" she frantically asked. Riko sighed and tapped her fingers against her clipboard. "From what you're telling me, it seems like you have no experience in basketball. You don't even know where the free throw line is! Plus, you don't seem like a mentally stable person. It may look like a walk in the park, but the world of high school basketball is intense. Especially now that the Generation of Miracles are first years! I need someone who won't crack under pressure and leave when I need them most," Riko explained. [Name] could feel herself start to tear up.

"O-Okay... Thank you very much for your constructive criticism," [Name] said. She bowed and quickly left the room. Luckily, her tears started falling after she left the gym.

Riko sighed and turned from the gym door. "It's a shame, really. She has a lot of untapped potential...," she muttered.

"You're just afraid she will steal the spot of cutest girl in the club," Hyūga stated, walking behind her.

"I never said that, idiot!"

If your front door was unlocked when you got home, would you go inside?

That was the question that was on Kagami's mind when he saw that the door to his apartment was unlocked. Did someone break in? Was there a murderer in there? Did a ghost do this? Maybe his dad finally decided to come back to Japan?

His hopes were mainly on the latter. However, he still wielded his bag as a weapon. Carefully, he softly kicked the door open.

"Taiga, is that you?"

Instantly, his careful demeanor turned into an angry one. Kagami shut the door and dropped his bag. "What did I tell you about leaving the door unlocked, [First Name]? I know this building has nice people, but that doesn't mean you have to leave your guard down!" He walked into the living room and stopped in his tracks when he saw her lying face down on his couch. He walked over and leaned over her head. "O-Oi, what's wrong?" he asked. Even though they had been in a relationship for months, he was still horrible at keeping up with her hormonal female emotions.

"I'll never meet Riko-senpai's expectations," she mumbled. He sighed and sat down on the unoccupied section of the couch. "Sulking isn't going to help that much," he said. [Name] grumbled something before sitting up and wiping the tears from her eyes. She brought her knees to her chest.

"Hey, Taiga. Can you teach me how to play basketball?" she suddenly asked after a long silence. He nodded instantly. "You know I would do anything for you, [First Name]," he said bluntly. She blushed. "You can be so cheesy, I swear... But, thanks. You're the best boyfriend ever!" She leaned over and gave him hug. He returned it with equal enthusiasm.

"We start tomorrow after basketball practice, okay?"

"Yes sir!" she exclaimed with a mock salute.

Sweat ran down [Name]'s face and dripped off from her chin. Her hair, which was so perfect in the morning, was now ratty with grease. She wiped away all of the sweat from her eyes. She wondered when was the last time she used all of these muscles. "I should've worked harder in Physical Education," she mumbled to herself.

"You have two more laps left, [First Name]! Keep it up! You're doing great!"

She gave him a thumbs up and continued to run while dribbling the ball. Honestly, she didn't know what a dribble was until he taught her.

"Oi, Bakagami! Why did you call me over here? Believe it or not, some of us want to go home"

Kagami turned to look at the fuming face of Riko. His instincts told him to run away, but he stood in his place. He turned toward [Name], who was still trying to run the first of her two laps. Riko raised one of her eyebrows. "I honestly did not expect to see this," she muttered to herself. She crossed her arms and watched the girl. While [Name] was clothed, Riko could tell that her stats went up just a little bit.

"[Last Name]-san, come over here!" Riko yelled. The panting girl ran over to her. "R-Riko-senpai? Why are you here?" [Name] asked with wide eyes. Ignoring her question, Riko motioned to the court. "Are you doing this to be the manager for the team?" [Name] nodded. "Of course! When I said I wanted to be manager for the basketball team, I really did mean it," she said, wiping rivulets of sweat off of her chin.

Kagami put his hand on Riko's shoulder. "She's really dedicated to learning about basketball, Coach," he said. The poor second year looked up to meet the determined gaze of Kagami. Looking over to [Name], she was met with an equally fiery look. She groaned. "It's unfair when the both of you give me those eyes... Fine! You can come to one practice and we'll see how it works," she said.

[Name] stopped breathing for a moment. Her heart was pounding. She looked over to Kagami. He shared the same look of excitement. "I-I did it, Taiga!" she exclaimed, running over to hug him. Riko, who had not known of their relationship, looked at the with wide eyes and shuffled away to give them privacy.

She snuggled into Kagami's chest. "I knew you could do it, [First Name]," he said over her. She let out a contented hum in agreement. He broke away from the hug. "Hey, now that you're our manager, you're going to have to cheer me on harder," Kagami said, a blush dusting his cheeks. She gave him a cheeky smile followed by her infamous mock salute.

"Yes, sir!"
