A request for Yumieyukii-senpai! I've actually had this idea for a long time, but I didn't know who to pick for it.

By the way, this whole time I've been assuming that Wei is his last name, so stuffs may be wrong.

Also, I've only been to a hospital to visit someone once and that was my dad after he had heart surgery. So, this won't be very accurate.

Burning Together

"[Last Name]-san, I believe he is awake right now. You can go inside if you wish."

The girl turned around, clutching the flowers to her chest. She sighed in relief when she noticed it was only a passing nurse. "Thank you. I was scared that he would be sleeping," she said. That was a lie. She was scared of going into the hospital room so she had been waiting outside the door until she could find the courage to go inside.

It was a mixture of guilt and fear that kept her away from the man inside. She hadn't visited him for a while due to her busy schedule. The thoughts that had kept her away from touching the doorknob came back to her. What if he was angry at her? What if he asked her to leave him and not to come back? These questions made her heart clench in pain. She didn't want him, the man that she loved, to do this to her.

"[Last Name], I know you're outside." Hearing Wei's voice made her jump in fright. "U-Um, yeah I am! I'm coming in, okay?" She opened the door.

He was laying on the hospital bed while looking out the window. She walked to his nightstand and put the flowers she brought on it. "So, who told you that you're speaking weirdly?" she asked. He faced her. [Name] inwardly cringed at the sight of the bandage covering the right side of his face. That was something she hadn't gotten used to yet.

"One of the nurses told me. I didn't believe it at first, but then Fukui admitted it later on. A pox on-" He stopped himself mid-sentence and coughed. "I mean, I hope that he gets what he deserves. It was very rude of him to do that to me," he said. She giggled behind her hand. "And you said that you didn't believe me when I told you!"

He shrugged flippantly at her response and looked towards the flowers. "The team decided that we should buy you the flowers. Fukui tried to get them to put poison ivy in there, but I thought that you had enough of chemicals by now." [Name] fiddled with her fingers as she said this. Talking about the accident that got him in the hospital in the first place always made her nervous. She always felt like it was her fault that he ended up the way he was.

The accident took place on a warm, sleepy afternoon in the Chemistry lab. The day prior had been one of the toughest basketball games for the Yōsen basketball team, so it was no surprise that Wei had been extremely tired. Adding the factor that his English and Japanese was terrible, he ended up putting two wrong substances together.

[Name] wasn't there that day due to illness, but she had heard from all of the students about the blast. It was explosive enough that people two classrooms down could hear it. While she hadn't seen underneath Wei's bandages, the people in the lab said that most of his right side had been severely burned because his face had been dangerously close to the flask.

Wei noticed the expression on her face. "[Last Name]-san, what it on thy- your mind?" he asked. She looked down at her feet. "I... I should've been there on that day," she stated. He sighed. "People get sick and accidents happen. These things are inevitable in the realm of human existence. We just have to move on from it," he said. Scooting over to make more room, he patted the newly open space.

She sat down next to him. "So, what should I call you now? Old One Eye?" She said to try to lighten up the mood. He took her hand. "I don't think that is what is needed to be discussed at the moment," he said, rubbing his thumb over her smooth skin. She looked down, tears coming out of her eyes.

"I'm not sure what I'm going to do with myself when you go back to China," she confessed. Her free hand wiped away the falling droplets. She let out a small sob. Wei looked confused as he helped to clear the tears. "You would go back to your normal routine and forget I was ever there," he stated with finality.

She looked up at him. "God, you're an idiot sometimes! I love you, Lui! I love you so much that sometimes it hurts..."

The silence that followed her confession was so thick that it could be cut with a knife. He let go of her hand and stared at his lap. [Name] turned away from him. Her hands were on her face trying to stop her growing blush and onslaught of tears. He let out a loud sigh. "I never had imagined a universe when I heard those words from the girl I love," he muttered.

[Name] turned back to him. "Does that mean-" Her sentence was cut off short as he leaned forward to capture her lips. It was the most heartfelt, tender kiss that she had ever had. He leaned his forehead onto hers and looked in her eyes as they parted. "I don't see how you are able to love me looking like... Well, like this."

She started chuckling. This turned into full blown laughter that caused tears to form on the edges of her eyes and her stomach to have cramps. Once [Name] calmed down, she flicked his forehead.

"I could care less about the burns on your face! I love you for the fire burning in your soul!"
