'Till Death Do Us Part

"Oi, [Name], stop playing with K-9 and pay attention to me."

The girl looked up from the floor. "Um, if I scratch your belly will your tongue stick out?" she asked. The look of utter disgust on his face told his answer clearly then anything he could've said. She rolled her eyes and continued to rub the dog's belly. "I thought so. Plus, his name is Baxter. Isn't that right you cuddly, wuddly wittle puppy!?" Baxter's tail went into overdrive as he squirmed under the tickles that she was giving him.

Hanamiya hit her head lightly with the newspaper in his hand. "It is a robotic dog, and its name is K-9," he stated. She pouted, making Baxter start to lick her face. "Makoto, stop trying to change my mind. You know that you aren't able to do that," she stated. He rolled his eyes and pulled her up onto the couch. "I'm pretty sure that my persuasion skills are much better than you think." The look in his eyes was one she saw a lot ever since they got engaged.

"Well, I'm gonna stop you right there. You have a big day tomorrow and another round of sex won't help you look bright and fresh in front of all of those potential buyers," [Name] stated. He growled. "They can all go screw themselves." He buried his head in her neck and wrapped his arms around her waist. She pushed him away. "Makoto, I'm serious," she said in the most mature voice that she could muster. He groaned. "You're no fun." She smiled. "But, you still love me, right?" He flicked her nose. "Do I really have to tell you the answer to that?" he asked.

She kissed his cheek. "Now, off to bed! I'll start making you a lunch for tomorrow!" she exclaimed, rolling off the couch and walking into the kitchen. Baxter followed her with a small bark. "Awwww, I guess my little baby wants to help me. Don't you, boy? Don't you?" she cooed.

"[First Name], you sound like an idiot right now!" Hanamiya yelled out from the living room.

"And you sound like an asshole, so I guess we're both in the same boat!" she yelled back to him.

"In recent news, there was an explosion at the world famous Science Exposition. Many think that the cause was a terrorist attack. However, recent findings show that one of the projects malfunctioned. We will have more news in the future. Our next story is about..."

[Name] let the TV drone on in the background. She felt lifeless. It was hard to accept the fact that her soulmate was dead due to a mishap at his dear Science Exposition. It hurt that she couldn't even have a proper funeral for him. The only traces of him left was whatever was at their shared house and that darned mutt.

A whine from her right took her out of her state. Hugging the pillow that still had his scent on it, she rolled the other way. "Go away, Baxter," she yelled, still burying her face in the pillow. She knew that he had jumped onto the bed. "I said go away, Baxter!" she screamed, throwing a different pillow at him. He laid down for a second but crawled toward her as soon as she was done. "I forgot you can understand human emotions," she muttered.

Baxter licked her cheek. She allowed him to do so. "What do I do?" she asked,"Makoto... Makoto, my husband to be is..." She choked before she could say anymore. [Name] knew that she couldn't say that word. It would just solidify a fact that she didn't want to accept.

She rubbed his body. "How did he do it?" she asked herself. "How did he make a robotic dog so lifelike? So... real."

It came to her like a train. She bolted out of her- their bed. She ran out of the room and went into his study. This was the place that he had first created the plans to make Baxter. She knew with enough digging around that she would find his blueprints. And like she thought she would, she did find them. [Name] rubbed the edges of the rolled up paper. She knew that once she opened it up, she wouldn't be able to go back. She would be called a lunatic, a heretic. No one would want to be around her.

She shook her head and forgot about all of her worries. She opened the print and a smile, one that would be classified as insane, graced her face. She traced the outline of the figure on the paper. With this sheet of paper, she could build any life-like robot that she wanted to. Even humans.

No, Hanamiya wasn't dead.

He simply hadn't been built yet.
