Long Distance Kiss

Skype.

It was one of the only way for [Name] to communicate with her fiance at the moment. She anxiously stared at her laptop's screen, wringing her hands together. Looking at the clock, her heart beat quicker. It was 11:45 p.m. and he still wouldn't get online. Laying down on her bed, she hugged her pillow to her chest. "That idiot... I swear if he isn't going to log on..."

Ping!

She threw the pillow to the side and scrambled to her desk nearby. Of course he would log in so close to the time she needed to see him. As soon as she got to his profile, she clicked on the video call button. Her heart started beating erratically as the little phony thingy on the screen did its buffering thing.

"Ahh, hello? Are you there, [Name]?"

[Name] smiled. "I'm here, Shoichi!" she exclaimed happily. His face suddenly appeared on the screen showing the devilishly handsome grin that she absolutely loved. She swore that her heart swelled up in joy. She brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. "So, how is work doing for you?" she asked. He sighed and pushed up his glasses. "This has been a tough assignment to deal with. However, I think the boss might let me go home earlier than expected. I have been doing all of the work he couldn't figure out to do," he said. [Name] rolled her eyes. Both men believed that the other man was a total idiot. The only reason why Imayoshi even had his job was because he was so good at it.

"I'm glad you're coming home early. I don't like it when I'm the only person in bed," she admitted. Her cheeks were pink in embarrassment. "So, you're saying that you want me to be in bed?" he asked in a seductively voice. She shook her head quickly. "I didn't mean that! You know I want to wait until after the wedding to do... that." It was like the mention of their wedding had shocked him into some kind of silence. "Let me see it," he said in a low voice.

She held her left hand in front of the webcam. It shined brilliantly despite the poor lighting. He stared at it for a couple of moments before nodding. [Name] put her hand back onto her lap. Imayoshi had always asked to see her engagement ring when they video chatted. She guessed that he wanted confirmation that other males could visibly see that she was already taken. His possessiveness was never a surprise to her.

After a moment of comfortable silence, her eyes wandered to the corner of her screen. "Ah! It's almost time!" she exclaimed. Her hands started to become sweaty. "Um, you do know what I'm talking about, right?" she asked. He nodded as he took off his glasses and started to clean them with a wet wipe. "You want me to kiss you when the clock for Japan strikes 12:00," he stated. She nodded. "It just seems fair, you know. This something that we've been doing for years. I'm not going to let your business trip to Canada ruin something this special!"

"Do you want to count down or should we both do it?" Imayoshi asked. "It wouldn't be fun if only one of us did it," [Name] replied. He lifted up his left arm and looked down on his watch. "Now, when I start counting down, you join in with me. We'll kiss after we say zero, okay?" She nodded.

It felt like forever before he started to count down. She couldn't help to laugh at the face he made when she counted the numbers in silly voices.

"Three... Two... One... Zero!"

Putting her lips onto her webcam, [Name] imagined that she was actually kissing him in real life. Butterflies made her stomach tingle. She felt a warm feeling. It was like she had traveled back in time when they shared their first kiss together. She moved her face away from the webcam. He had done the same at the same time. She covered her face to try to conceal her embarrassment. Imayoshi only smiled fondly at her. "You really should get to sleep. It's only 10:00 a.m., so you don't have to worry about me." She nodded.

"I love you, Shoichi!" she suddenly exclaimed. His hand that was moving his mouse stopped. He had forgotten how it felt to hear her say that. He reached out to his screen and touched the part where her cheek was.

"I love you too, [Name]. Don't you ever forget that."
