Perfect Facade
It was if the whole world had held its breath.
Everything was beautiful. From the dress [Name] wore to the bells ringing in the background and even to the sun shining through the trees they stood beneath was all so perfect. Looking at the person across from her, she could feel her heart beat slightly faster. She glanced around to see if anyone had noticed her frazzled state. Using the most calm motion she could muster, she tucked a loose strand of hair while pretending that all of her nervousness would be tucked along with it.
The bride looked beautiful in her flowing gown. A certain radiance was shining around Momoi Satsuki, making the rest of the people in the room smile along with her. [Name] was no exception. In fact, Momoi's smile just made her heart beat even faster.
Long eternities seemed to pass by in the span of a few minutes. [Name] did whatever she could do to make the time appear to go faster. The words seemed to pour endlessly out from the pastor's mouth. Twiddling the string that hung from a seam on her dress could only help so much.
Finally, the pastor stopped his speech momentarily to look up at the young couple. This action caused a boy to quickly stand up and run towards the altar. He held up a pillow with two rings on top impatiently. The two laughed at his enthusiasm.
"Do you, Momoi Satsuki, take-"
[Name] allowed herself to close her eyes and shut out the world. It was then that she imagined taking Momoi's hand. The dear words that swore her lifetime devotion stumbled out of her in embarrassment. And then, even before the pastor said it, they would kiss in front of the congregation. There would be cheers and tears coming from people they knew and love.
When she opened her eyes, Momoi Satsuki and Kuroko Tetsuya kissed under the afternoon light.
The audience erupted in cheers, laughter, and most of all, tears. [Name] belonged to the latter group with the other bridesmaids. Her eye caught Momoi's eyes for a brief moment. They were shining like they had never before.
Looking down at her feet, she wiped away the tears streaming down her cheeks. She tried to smile and congratulate the two on finally getting married. Yet no matter how much she tried to ignore it, the truth she realized that day had hit her like a ton of bricks.
No matter how hard she tried, she could never make Momoi as happy as she was with Kuroko.
