*** Flashback ***

"What is this mama?" I asked, looking at the pendant my mama was holding.

"This is a gift for my little princess," Mama said. "It's a pendant."

"A pendant?"

"Yes, a pendant."

Mama pushed my hair to the side and tied the pendant around my neck.

"This pendant is your mama's love for you," Mama said. "Always keep it safe with you. As long as this pendant is with you, I'm with you in every step you take in life. I'll be your inspiration, motivation, and the force that keeps you strong."

Mama's memories are fresh in my head to this day.

It feels like I was just five yesterday when she gave me her pendant.

She bought the pendant a week before I was born. She had it since then.

When I reached the age of five, she passed it on to me.

She trusted me with her pendant, and I ruined it. Her pendant is ruined because of my carelessness.

I'm such a horrible daughter.

How can I be so irresponsible? Why did I even talk about the pendant to Max?

Evan wouldn't have heard it if I didn't talk about the pendant.

I took my two favorite pictures of Mama from the box in my closet.

The first picture was taken one year after her and Dad's marriage.

In the picture, she has a big smile on her face.

Her smile is beautiful.

It is peaceful, as if nothing can ever go wrong with her.

Dad took the second picture on my twelfth birthday.

She refused so much, but he still took it.

She smiled lazily, but she still looked beautiful.

Her face didn't change even after she gave birth to two kids.

It was still young and beautiful.

"I'm so sorry, Mama." I cried as I held my Mama's pictures in my hand. "I'm sorry about the pendant. It was the one thing that kept us connected to this day. Now, what will I do without it? I'm very sorry."

I miss her so much, and I wish she were here with me.

That would have been possible if I listened to Keisha, Dad, and Grandma on that unfortunate day two years ago.

Maybe at that time, I could have saved my Mama.

"I'm sorry for all the pain I have caused you and everybody else, too," I said. "I'm-"

"Faith!"

I jumped after I heard my name.

"Faith, come downstairs!" Grandma yelled.

I quickly put the pictures back in the box and closed the closet.

"Faith!" Grandma yelled again.

"I-I-I'm coming, Grandma!" I yelled back softly.

I looked at my face in the mirror, and I looked horrible.

My eyes are red and puffy from crying all day.
