Faith (P.O.V.):
"What!?" I exclaimed, getting up from my chair.
"Well, I think this would be good for our school." Mr. Salas said. "You should think about i-"
"No! I don't want to think about it. I don't want to do a duet with anybody. I'm fine dancing with everybody else."
"Faith, this could be good for us. The academy will be impressed if we present your solo, everybody dancing as a team, and a duet at the end of the event. And they will see more of you. Isn't that what you want? Don't you want to win this?"
"Yeah, but I'm not the only person in this competition. There are other people, too."
"I know there are other people too. However, as a teacher, I know my students. I know which students are deserving and which aren't. I know all my student's skills and weaknesses. That's why I can confidently say that nobody deserves this more than you. You are the most deserving student to win this competition. You've come a long way. You started off being the nervous dancer in this class that everybody hated for being slow and messing things up, but as time passed, you rose and became the best dancer I have ever seen. You've had dance in you from the beginning. You were just too afraid to show it and accept it."
"I don't care if this is good for the school or me; I will not dance with anybody."
Mr. Salas sighed.
"Well, if you don't want to take up this opportunity, then I'm sorry to say it will be given to someone else." He said. "I will have to give the opening act and the duet dance to someone else."
"What!?" I exclaimed. "But that's not fair. Mr. Salas, I've been preparing for the opening act for weeks. You can't take this opportunity away from me."
"The opening act and the duet dance go hand in hand. You can't do the other if you don't want to do one. I'm sure many people are dying to get your opportunities now. Think about it. If you don't answer me by this afternoon, this opportunity will be given to someone else."
I sighed heavily, running my fingers through my hair.
Everything has been going so good.
I have been working on my solo and with my team to prepare for the competition.
Then, out of nowhere, Mr. Salas suggested I do a duet with someone when the event was over.
And he wants me to dance with nobody other than Ray Wyatt in this duet.
Out of all the people, he suggested Ray Wyatt.
However, Mr. Salas wouldn't get this idea out of nowhere.
He didn't even have any other plans for the competition.
If he did, he would have said all this the first day he announced the competition and my solo performance.
This new thing has been put in his head, and I think I know who has done this.
