Faith (P.O.V.)
"You're going to go to that party!" Max said, freaking out during lunch.
"Yes," I said, biting my sandwich. "Why are you freaking out about it?"
"Because that's not cool!"
I looked at him confusedly, raising my eyebrows.
"A-A-And if y-y-you're truly my friend, you won't go." He said nervously.
"Max," I said confusedly. "It's just Ray's party."
"Y-y-yes, the f-f-f-friend of Evan Owens. We c-c-can't t-t-trust him."
I sighed heavily.
"Max, Ray is not like that," I said.
Max gasped.
"Evan is e-e-e-evil, and they're friends." He said, adjusting his glasses.
"I know," I said. "But that doesn't mean they are the same people."
"Yes, it does! They're all the same, and now they're changing you too."
I looked at him sadly.
I agree Evan is conceited.
He is a jerk, an inhuman monster, and sick in the head, but Ray is not like that.
He is friendly and sweet. He's not like Evan. Max does not seem to understand this.
"You're supposed to be my best friend, and now you're changing!" Max snarled. "You're changing for them!"
He is getting angry, which is weird because Max never gets angry.
"Max, chill," I said.
"Your changing!" He said, still angry.
"Just chill. I'm not changing."
"Then why are you never around?"
"Because I..."
I didn't know what to say to him.
Evan specifically restricted me from discussing the acid attack with anybody.
He thinks his plan will get ruined if anybody else finds out that I got attacked.
According to him, at this point, he is at an excellent part in his plan, and the last thing he needs is the "victim"---me--messing things up for him.
"Max, I know you're upset that I'm not around as much, but I promise you that after tonight, I will tell you everything," I said, standing up and getting my bag.
"Why not now?" Max asked impatiently.
"Because I can't tell you anything now. I'll explain everything to you tomorrow, though. Or just come to the party, and we will talk there."
"No, thank you! If you want to hang out with those rich kids, then go ahead, but I don't want to."
I looked at him in disbelief.
"I'm sorry you feel that way," I said, unaware of what to say to him.
Max ignored me and took out a book.
He opened his book and started to read without looking up at me.
I sighed heavily and walked away.
Our friendship is getting ruined. Everything is getting messed up. The only reason why I don't hang out with him like that nowadays is because I don't want to lie to him about everything.
I want to talk to him after the truth is out so I don't have to lie.
He doesn't understand, though. He thinks I don't want to be around him anymore, and I'm choosing them over him. I would never do that. Max is my best friend, and I would never put anybody else before him.
