A/N: Tris's dress is in the external link. Her tights/shoes will be in the next chapter I swear

The day of the party, Tris dresses in the outfit Lacey had bought her. The dress is bright red, with black buttons and other accents and small white polka dots. It has thin straps, and barely reaches her knees. Christina would be proud, She thinks. Along with that, she wears black fishnet tights and black heels with small holes in them, forming a pattern. Lacey had gotten her them when after Tris had told her that she was going to wear a pair of her boots with the dress.

Lacey had told her something about a surprise, but other than meeting Lacey's boyfriend, she's not understanding the surprise. She was half about ready to murder her cousin, since she'd made her wear red lipstick, black eyeliner, and black mascara.

When she gets downstairs, though, she understands the surprise.

All of her friends sit on the couches, talking to each other in excited voices. Marlene, Christina, Lynn, Shauna, and Lauren catch up while Caleb, Zeke, Will, and Uriah talk about God-only-knows-what. They talk to a dark haired boy, who she doesn't recognize until her feet are off of the stairs, and like the others, he turns his head to look at her.

Tobias.

/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\

Tobias hadn't known what he had been expecting when Lacey told him that he had to 'pack up his shit and be in New York in two days'. He hadn't expected such an expensive place, and he definitely hadn't expected Tris to be dressed so...un-Tris-like.

Her dress is bright red, the same color as her lipstick, with white dots on it and black detailing. She's wearing black fishnet tights- Of course, he thinks, she needs something Dauntless- and black heels that make her look taller and her legs longer. Her hair is down, resting on her right shoulder. Compared to how pale her skin looks, her hair looks really dark gold.

The girls immediately start gushing about her outfit. All except for Lynn, anyway, which surprises him- he'd never pegged Lauren as the fashion-obsessed type. When they're done, she hugs Zeke, and then Uriah, who teases her by saying that she's lucky he doesn't have a pink paintball. They laugh, and then she turns to him.

Once their eyes meet, the rest of the world seems to fall away. Her eyelashes are black- no doubt from mascara- and she has some eyeliner on, but other than that and the lipstick, she's not wearing any makeup.

He stands up and takes her hand, looking down at her. He barely has to, thanks to the heels. "You look good, Tris." He tells her. He means it, too.

Her cheeks turn a little pink. She smiles. "You don't look bad yourself." He smiles back.

She looks at her friends, then at him. He's the only one dressed for the formal-ish dress code of the party. He moves his face next to her ear, his lips brushing against her ear as he talks. "I'm the only one staying."

Her eyes widen. "Really?" she asks.

He nods. "Christina's mother had a business trip up here, and she dragged Will along. Zeke, Uriah, Lynn, and Shauna came up here for their parents and guardians to meet and hang out. Lauren came to find a job, and Marlene's great-grandmother made her come to take a break from Alaska and see the city."

"And you?" She asks quietly.

He flashes her a half-smile. "I came up here because Lacey told me that if I didn't get my ass up here for this party, she'd murder me."

Tris laughs. For once, she seems like a normal teenage girl, not Tris Prior, the Divergent. He likes this side of her. It shows that the war and all that has happened to her hasn't ruined her, though that would've been hard to doubt from the start.

Several cell phones go off at the same time, and all of the girls groan. "We have to go." They say at the same time. The goodbyes are fast- with Tris promising the girls that she would invite them to stay a week up here with her, and that they could do whatever they wanted- and then her friends are gone. She's left with Caleb, Lacey, Jacob, and Tobias.

Tris's parents, as well as Lacey's, come down the stairs and stand near the door, prepared to greet the guests. Tris grabs Tobias's hand, grinning. "You wanna get out of here?" she grins mischieviously.

"The party didn't even start yet." He tells her.

She slips her finger into the knot of his tie and loosens it some, their faces close together. "I know you want to get away." She tells him. He notices that her nails are red with black tips.

His lips pull up in a smirk. "Well then, Miss Prior, show me the way." She keeps a tight grip on his hands and leads him towards the stairs.

A/N: Wow I feel like no one's reading this anymore haha
