Tris holds Four's hand tightly in hers as they walk through the Abnegation section of the city to find his family. She doesn't want to have to leave him, afraid of being without him again, as pathetic as it sounds.

Far at the back of the group, Marlene walks alone, watching her friends laughing and talking and enjoying themselves. She still doesn't get how Uriah could say he loves her. She considers it for a minute. He meant he loves me like a sister. She thinks. Of course- that's the only  logical explanation.

She catches up to the group and feels someone tug her arm backwards a little. She turns around and sees Uriah. "Can I, um, talk to you?"

She nods and lets the group go ahead a little. They walk slowly. "So, what's up?"

"Why won't you forgive me?"

She stops and looks a him. "You think I haven't forgiven you?"

"Yeah, of course. I mean I know I was stupid and I was a complete and utter ass, but-"

"Uriah." She cuts him off. "You were already forgiven. Let's just pretend it never happened." She starts walking again.

"Pretend it never happened? So do you just want to pretend that our relationship never happened, too?"

"That's the point." She snaps. "And I've already started."

"So you don't love me." It's not a question.

"I never said that. I said-"

"I know what you said." He interrupts her. "I know exactly what you said. And I didn't like it at all."

"So what, you want me to try and trust you again after you cheated on me? You of all people should know that I don't work like that." she narrows her eyes at him.

"You don't know what it's been like for me since you died." He says in a low, angry voice. His tone makes her want to hide in a dark corner.

"No, you don't know what it's been like for me." She takes a step towards him, their chests separated by a sliver of air. He's taller than her, but she's intimidating enough that height doesn't make a difference. "I've cried every freaking day since that fight and since I died. I wouldn't get out of bed a few days, and several times I refused to eat. I spent months thinking that maybe I should forgive you and let you back into my life, that once you guys come out of the fence I could try and contact you. But then I remembered that damn blonde whore that was all over you and it just threw me right back into my depressed state. Don't you dare tell me that I don't know what you went through."

Marlene's eyes are burning with anger and sadness and even jealously. She doesn't care though. She'd rather let him see what he did to her.

Uriah looks down at Marlene, for once seeing her differently. He doesn't just see her as Marlene anymore. Instead he sees her as a girl who's heart was broken. By him. Guilt makes his insides feel like they're twisting into tight knots. He didn't know that she'd been hurt that bad by what he did. He never meant to hurt her. He would've rather killed himself than see her in so much pain. And because of his stupidity, not only had he broken her heart and lost his best friend, but she'd also died.

"If you give me another chance, I swear I will never hurt you or do anything like that again. I love you Marlene, and I'm serious. That girl meant nothing to me. You, you're not as disposable. Actually, you're not disposable at all. I'll do anything."

She looks up at him, her eyes searching his. For once they're unguarded, and she sees that he's serious. She doesn't say anything for a moment, and he thinks that she's going to say no, that she will never forgive him or give him another chance. Then she nods and takes his hand, and he smiles down at her. Slowly she smiles back at him, and then they run to catch up with the others.
