A week before Christmas, there's a knock on the door. Lauren and Shauna grin knowningly at each other, and Zeke gets up to answer the door.
He returns with a dark-haired girl dressed in black and gray, carrying a dark brown leather suitcase. Uriah jumps up immediately, unsure of what else to do. Lynn, however, seems to know exactly what to do. She launches herself at the girl and almost knocks her over. "MARLENE!" She shouts, hugging her friend.
Marlene laughs. "God, Lynn. You're going to kill me!"
Lynn lets go and mumbles an apology.
Shauna and Lauren hug her and make her sit down, handing her a mug of hot chocolate. She sits next to Uriah- literally right next to him. Like, if she moved over any more, she'd be sitting on his lap- and kisses his cheek.
Uriah turns at least fifty different shades of red, and Lauren laughs at him, almost spilling her hot chocolate. "Oh-my God- Uriah. Your face- it's hilarious!" Her words are broken up by her laughter.
Uriah rests an arm on the top of the couch behind Marlene and smiles at her. He flicks her messy braid. "In a rush this morning?" He asks.
She nods. "It was a last-minute thing, truthfully. Leave it to my great-grandmother to only tell me the day of. I literally dumped whatever I could into my suitcase this morning."
Lynn shakes her head and tsks at Marlene. "Always were a procrastinator, Mar."
"I'm serious!" Marlene laughs. "She literally looked up from the newspaper at breakfast and said, 'Oh, by the way, your friends- what were their names? Shauna, Zeke, and Lauren- invited you over for a few weeks in Philadelphia. Your flight leaves in four hours.'"
Zeke raises an eyebrow. "And?"
"And then she just looked back down at the newspaper and said nothing else. Then, after like twenty minutes, she's just like, 'Oh, yeah. And that girl- Lynn, is it?- is also going to be there.'"
Lauren snorts.
"So, I went up and got ready to leave, then on the car ride there she's just like, 'What's your boyfriend's name again?' and I was like 'Uriah...' and she said, 'Okay. He's going to be there too.'"
Uriah smiles to himself. Her great grandmother had called him her boyfriend and she didn't deny it. In a sense, they are dating. Though not really. It's confusing.
Zeke laughs. "Aww, Uriah's got a girlfriend."
"They were dating before." Lynn says, punching him in the leg.
Uriah shakes his head. "Actually, no we weren't."
Shauna and Lauren give them what-the-hell looks. Marlene shrugs. "It wasn't official."
Lauren rolls her eyes. "Nothing is ever official with you two." Then, as an afterthought, "It must run in the family. Both Zeke and Uriah never have the guts to ask girls out."
The boys start to protest, but Lynn holds up a hand. "Ah-ah-ah. She has a point. Uriah, you had a crush on Marlene for how long before you asked her out?" Zeke smirks at his brother, but Lynn turns to him. "And you had a crush on my sister for how long?"
They both stutter out excuses, but Shauna just laughs. "Oh, just wait till Four hears about this."
A/N: Sorry it's kinda short.
Also, if you're a fan of The Mortal Instruments, Divergent, and The Infernal Devices, you should read my newest story. It's called Dauntless Shadowhunters and it's about the TMI/TID characters just randomly appearing in the Dauntless compound.
