Dazed and confused you blinked a few times and opened your eyes. All you could remember from the night before was a struggle against unknown people. Now you were tied to a chair in a weird looking office. Max was also tied to a chair off to your left. He came to not long after you did.
After careful examination of the room, you found some clues. Once everything was pieced together you concluded that the institute had kidnapped you. You thought they were just rumors. Stories told by communities to scare people and keep them from leaving. It looks now to be all true.
That means that if the rumors were true, you needed to get out. Fast.
"Max, this place is bad. Very bad. Remember the rumors I told you about the institute?" You said. He stared and slowly agreed. "Well, we're here..." You muttered.
If you weren't his ticket out of this miserable situation, you knew he would have said "I told you so". Since he was practically saying it with his eyes.
"We need to leave. They could turn us into synths." You sighed and searched the room for anything you were able to use. Max did the same, and soon you both spotted it at the same time. The knife laying on the table.
The two of you scooted over to the table and stared at each other.
"Well, now what?" Max sighed.
A man walked in the door and stared at us. He gave an amused chuckle and walked over to you. He leaned over and got really close to your face.
"I think we'll change you next." He sneered. You cringed at the scent of his breath and you heard Max growl quietly. Apparently the man did too, because he backed up, pushing your chair back with his foot. You slid back from them and stopped.
"Oh I'm sorry pretty boy. Did you want to volunteer? We could implant you first." He offered. Max glanced back at you and he spit on the man's shoes.
"Go to hell." Max hissed.
The man pushed Max's chair back the same way he pushed yours, and you were both back where you started. (He's like 50 years old, BTW.)
"Listen up kids. Your blonde friend has already started the transformation. She'll be a robot in just a few more days." He snickered. "Might as well accept the fact." He said dryly. You both glared at him.
"Don't you dare touch her." Max huffed. The man turned to him, and his face stretched in amusement.
"Little late now, her memory has no doubt been wiped already. She'll be turned into a synth soon and you can't stop it." He smirked. Max was about to retort, but you gave him a stern look so he shut his mouth. "Look kids, we're making a better society here. Synths don't argue, don't fight, and will follow simple orders. It's a change this world needs." The man explained. His expression was no longer cheeky, but serious.
When the man left you reached into your back pocket and found a small switchblade (that apparently you forgot was there. Silly reader-chan! xD). You quickly as possible cut through your rope restraints, and then helped Max out of his restraints. You two stood and grabbed as many useful things as you could, including some weapons.
You both carefully snuck out the door and found some stairs. Once in what looked like the main lobby of the building, you started toward the doors but Max grabbed your arm.
"I'm not leaving without Tiffany." He said.
"We don't even know where she is, Max. We'd have a better chance of looking for her as a synth." Your words struck a nerve within him and he glared.
"I'm not leaving without her, general." He said through clenched teeth. Particular venom was placed around the word 'general'. You glared back but agreed to search for the blonde. You three went back to the stair case and went to the basement.
You both readied your weapons as you crept down the stairs. There was a couple guards you had to take out before you made it to the door. It was locked by a terminal and you easily hacked it. Inside, Tiffany was laying on an examination table. Her wrists and ankles were strapped down and she was hooked up to some machines. Strangely enough, there was no one around. So you both quickly worked on setting her free.
The machines were complicated and neither of you knew how to detach her without harming her in the process. After cutting her restraints, you thought for a moment.
"Wait, Max. Stand back." You ordered. He took a few steps away from the big computer she was hooked up to and you took the shot. There was a lot of sparks and a loud "Boom!" as the computer exploded.
"What the hell did you do that for?!" Max yelled.
"Yeah, why would you do such a thing?" Another voice asked. From a doorway on the opposite side of the room, walked the man from before. He walked over and you aimed at his head. His stride faltered but he kept advancing.
"Shoot him!" Max yelled. You obeyed and shot the man once in the head. He stopped walking but the bullet didn't pierce his skull. It hit his forehead and sparks flew from his neck. There was a moment of deafening silence, the man just stared at you. Then finally he walked closer. He was a synth....how were you supposed to kill him now?? Max had unhooked Tiffany from the computers and had her in his arms.
"I'll take care of this one. Get outside, now!" You ordered them. He ran up the stairs and you shot the synth man a few more times. It seemed to make him mad, because he charged at you. You shot once more at his eye which exploded with sparks. You ran back to the door and he followed closely behind. As you were about to close the door, his head poked out. You grabbed the handle and without thinking, pulled it shut with as much strength as you could muster. Off popped his head, sparks flying in every direction. You turned and took off up the stairs without looking back.
Outside, you met up with Max and began walking in a direction to find out where you were. It was a long, harrowing journey back to the tower, but by night fall you were both trudging toward the metal door. At this point you were so tired, you leaned against the door and pounded on it.
"Adam!! Open up, it's us. We're back!" You yelled.
"General??" He shouted.
"Open up, I have Max and Tiffany with me!" You replied.
You were starting to worry for Tiffany's health. She hadn't woken up once during the whole journey back but she still had a faint pulse. Soon the door was pushed open, and Ross and Adam ushered you all inside.
"Thank god! What happened to you guys??" Adam asked as Max took Tiffany right into the medical office.
"It's a long story..." You sighed.
