((Sorry in advance for the bad fan art. This picture was hard but I really wanted to draw this for this particular chapter. You'll understand at the end of the chapter I think. So..yay! Tiffany's gone. Wait that's pretty messed up. I'm happy I just killed a character.....are you happy she's dead? Maybe just a little?? ;P There's a swear word in this one..just to warn you and Max gets...mad.
Okay now you can go ahead and read the chapter. A reader asked me to publish this one early so I did! Yay, you're welcome. 💜💜💜 Go ahead now, I'll let you read...))
"General, just tell us." Ross begged. Both guys were staring at you impatiently.
"We were kidnapped...by the Institute." You said.
"The institute?!" Adam gasped.
"I thought it was only a rumor.." Ross sighed.
"So did I. But they had Tiffany hooked up to terminals and machines." You explained.
Just then, Max opened the door ferociously.
"General! Her pulse is gone!" He cried. You turned to Adam.
"Get Barney down here. Tell everyone else we're here and fine." You commanded.
Ross and Adam turned and went up the stairs quickly. You turned back and ran into the medical office. Max was combing his hand through his hair anxiously and you could see tears welling up in his eyes.
"Relax, she will be okay." You coaxed him. You looked over her body, hands hovering around her neck. You started sweating, and your hands shook. You didn't know what to do. There was a metal plate over her chest and some wires sticking out.
Suddenly, Barney came into the room.
"I here now. What wrong?" He asked, placing a hand on your shoulder.
"They were going to turn her into a synth..we brought her back but her pulse is gone.." You explained.
"We shoulds cut these wires, I thinks she's under the cardiac arrests." He said. He started cutting wires and you helped him remove the metal plate. There was more wires underneath, connecting her heart to the metal plate. You glanced over at Max and saw his face turn a pale green color. You replaced the plate and Max started looking for the electric panels.
"Comes on, comes on! Rights there!" Barney pointed, showing him where the panels were. Max grabbed them and brought them over. The shock wasn't very strong but her body moved, we all stared on and Barney held his fingers at her throat to feel for a pulse.
"Damns it!" Barney shouted suddenly, hanging his head in his hands.
"Can't-Can't we do something else?? Anything else??" Max asked, starting to pace the room.
"I thinks we did alls we coulds do." He replied sadly.
"No...no. She can't be dead.." Max croaked, a few tears escaped and rolled down his cheeks.
"Max...I'm sorry. We tried but--" he stopped you.
"IT WASN'T ENOUGH!!" He yelled.
Barney and you glanced at each other, sharing a worried glance.
"Max, looks man. If you needs some times we understands.." Barney said, looking over at him.
"Time...yes...get out." He muttered, successfully scaring you both. He was holding Tiffany's hand and staring at it. He seemed so calm, it was utterly terrifying. You both left without another word.
Once upstairs everyone crowded around you with tons of questions. You sat down in a nice chair and Alesa gave you baby Mason to hold onto. They all sat around as you told them about Diamond City, the Institute, and then finally about Tiffany. Everyone agreed that Max should get some space. You all chatted about random things and played with baby mason until he started getting tired and fell asleep in your arms. You gave him to Alesa who set him in his crib.
Everybody talked a little longer before deciding to go to bed.
In the morning, you woke up before everyone and went to the training room just to practice your aim. The rest of the day went by pretty normally but your mind kept wandering back to Max. How was he dealing with things? You decided to go check on him.
You knocked on the door but nothing happened so you opened the door cautiously. You walked in and saw Tiffany's body still laying on the table and Max sitting in a chair in the corner. He looked up when he heard you come in and his face contorted into anger.
"What do you want, murderer?" He spat. You could feel your heart shattering as he called you that. Your heart. It seems like because of the man in front of you, you had recently discovered your heart was there. Beating so powerfully for something...for someone.
"Max....I didn't kill her.." You spoke softly.
"No, not directly you didn't." He sighed.
"Max, we are all upset that she's gone...but I've seen many deaths in my life." You admitted.
"You tell us all you have a long dark past, general. But you keep so many secrets.." He chuckled. Your veins froze when you heard him chuckle and he stood up slowly, avoiding eye contact with you.
"This has nothing to do with her death." You scoffed.
"Maybe not. But it's your fault she's dead. You should have done more...you could have." He replied.
"Max I did all I could.." You reasoned. His head snapped up and he pulled a gun on you. Your heart stopped and all you could do was stare at his angry, tear-stained face, and the loaded pistol he aimed at you.
