Without You

Chapter 40

"Allie." Jake says quietly. "Things get better."

"I used to think so but it's been almost 7 years. It's gotten progressively worse." I say and my voice shakes.

"Allie I'm so sorry." Nick hugs me lopsidedly. I give him a fake smile in return.

We are sitting in the hospital parking lot, the 6 of us. The doctors informed me Autumn died on impact and practically begged us not to sue them. I wasn't exactly planning on it. She's gone now.

I'm alone. Im selfish. I'm completely alone. I'm deflated of energy and will power. I'm never letting anyone in again. I refuse to be broken again.

Monday.

The student population just got over the fact that I disappeared and the whole Hunter thing and now I'm the center of the gossip again. Now it was about Jack and that wrapped me into it and about my suicidal dead cousin. It's a small town so must everyone knew Autumn and about the story which was fantastic.

"Allie, we are so sorry." Jessie and Camden come up to me and hug me at my locker.

"Thanks girls." I smile softly and hug them back. I knew I would be getting pity today and there wasn't anything I could do. At least the team trip over the weekend was cancelled so I didn't have to get all their pity then. I would get it today.

"Allison can we talk?" Jason comes up and ruins our little circle, more like triangle.

"We are talking right now." I deadpan and he rolls his eyes.

"That one is over used." He says and I look at my nails bored showing him I didn't want to continue. "Can we talk in private?" I shake my head and turn away from him but he grabs my wrist roughly and turns me around. "Come with me or I will carry you with me. Your choice."

"I'm not scared of you. I won't hesitate to punch you in the face if you touch me again." I snap and smile slightly knowing I got the fight back in me. I slowly detach his hand from my wrist.

"I know you aren't but you need to come and talk to me in private." He says lowly. I open my mouth to speak but he talks before I can. "Listen I saved your ass 2 times the other night so at the very least you can come with me."

"Yeah and then you made me feel like shit." I mumble.

"And then she went and slept in my barn and that caught on fire ultimately resulting in her going to the hospital." Jake comes up behind me.

"Get out of this Evans, it's not your business." Jason snarls at Jake. "She was in that barn be used you made her asshole."

"It is my business." Jake snaps but ignores Jason's second statement.

"This is not your business. This is between Jason and I. I can handle myself." I say to Jake and look to Jason to go.

"No Allison, you are my business. You are not in the right state of mind-" Jake says and pulls me towards him.

"You don't know anything about me. Stay away from me Jake, I don't need your help." I snap at him and walk towards Jason.

Jake reaches out to pull me back but Jason shouts, "Don't fucking touch her." And Jase pulls me into him.
