23: Can Orcs Leave Us Alone?

I woke up in Thorin's arms; he was wide awake staring at the ceiling.

"Do you think Kili likes Tauriel?" I asked quietly.

"You're awake?" He looked down at me and I snuggled closer because I was still cold. I nodded and he rubbed my shoulders.

He replied, "I can't tell. If he did, you shouldn't be worried."

"I know," I said quietly, "But..." I shook my head and chuckled, "I'm jumping to conclusions. It's stupid really."

"No, you can feel threatened," he said to me.

"But I don't feel threatened," I said, "If he likes her, he can go for it. I just don't want him to leave me, you know?"

"Andiel, I understand, but you already have a courting braid in your hair, and he called you amrâlimê. Dwarves rarely find two mates."

I smiled, "It'd be so funny if we were this rare exception. I honestly don't care, he could like a hundred girls and - okay I would care then - point is, I just don't want him to leave me."

Thorin chuckled, "And he won't."

"How do you know that?" I asked him, "I'm me, Thorin, people don't stay with me. They leave with no closure and act like I'm the plague when I haven't done anything wrong."

I bit my lip to keep from crying. Crying was stupid, all of us just met, he wouldn't leave me for her. I hated how stupid my mind made me feel.

"What happened to you?" I sniffed, "You seem like you know a lot."

"I loved someone once. We were the best of friends; she'd always get in trouble and I'd somehow weasel her out of it," he chuckled.

I smiled, "What happened to her? Do you two still talk?"

"She was killed by Smaug."

I put my head on his chest.

"I'm so fucking sorry Thorin. I can kill Smaug right?"

"It's alright Andiel," he said softly, "It sometimes hurts."

"Does Bilbo put you at ease?"

"What?"

I giggled, "Your ears are red."

He covered them with his hair and I laughed.

"You like him don't you?" I asked.

"No, all I feel is admiration and friendship."

I smirked, "What do you feel when you see him?"

"M-my hands get sweaty. And when the sun falls just right on his brown hair, and the crinkle of his eyes when-"

"Thorin, you idiot that's love."

He started, "No it is not! I-"

"It must be nearly dawn," Bofur said loudly from his cell.

"We're never going to get out of the mountain are we?" Ori said.

"We will!" I insisted and my stomach grumbled, "After I eat."

I heard keys jingle and someone said, "Not stuck in here you're not."

Bilbo came into view and I smiled.

Thorin yelled, "Bilbo!"

He helped me up and ran to the bars. The dwarves started to yell and Bilbo shushed them.
