28: Impossible Dreams

I coughed and looked up at the ceiling. I heard a small crash and I snapped my head. Kili had a bowl of water in his hands, but now it was on the floor.

"Kili are you alright?" I got up with a struggle and walked over to him on the floor.

He looked down, "You coughed, so I wanted to get you water."

I chuckled at his attempts and brought him up. I set him on the ground next to a chair I picked out.

"What do you think about Tauriel?" I asked.

"What?" He asked me. I realized it came out as whatdoyouthinkaboutTauriel instead of a sentence.

I cleared my throat, "What do you think about Tauriel?"

"I love you," he held my hand and I smiled at him.

"Okay," I bit my lip, "but you didn't answer my question."

"Andiel, I don't know. The way she talked to me," he paused, "I like her."

I nodded slowly. "Enough to leave me?" I asked quietly.

"What?!" He said, "Amralime, no. I love you too much to ever leave you," his thumb ran over my cheek, "I just think fondly of her."

"I'm sad. We probably won't ever see her again," I said quietly.

Kili's eyes reflected sadness as he looked at me.

He asked, "So what do we do?"

I rested my head on his shoulder and stared at the ground. One of his hands came up to run through my hair.

I gasped, "I know!" I brought myself up to look at him.

"Hmm?" He looked at me.

He looked a sickly pale-brown-yellow mixture, and it yanked at my heart with the thought of him dying.

"If we make it out alive, how about we all just date each other?"

He blinked then went, "Wot?"

I smiled then it faded.

"Fuck, she may be straight and not want to be with me. Ugh, that doesn't matter," because we're going to die, "the point is, we could all be in one relationship."

"What do you mean?" He asked confused.

I said, "In my world there's something called poly relationships. I've always wanted one, but everyone is monogamous. Ugh. But, I do know that it's three or more people in one relationship consensually."

"Mona-what?"

I laughed, "No no, mo-naw-ga-mous."

He repeated then asked, "That's what we are?"

"Yeah we're monogamous right now because we're only two people. With Tauriel, we'd be polyamorous."

He raised his eyebrows and I pronounced it for him.

"Are dwarves okay with this? I don't know about sexuality and romantic stuff when it comes to you, sorry," I said.

"It's okay," he smiled, "There are few who do what you speak of, and they are treated just like a regular relationship. I saw one in Dunland though, they were linked by the arms with big beards and all. Smiles painted their faces. I wished to be that happy."

I asked quietly, "Are you now?"

"Of course! I have you, we're going to reclaim Erebor!" His smile got wider, "What more can I ask for?"
