The Bad Boy Believes Me?

14. What a dick.

I was currently sitting in 3rd period. It's been 3 weeks since the fire. Zane and I are in a weird place right now. He doesn't come over for tutoring anymore. I hope he hasn't gave up on me because I turned him down. I hope he understood.

"Hey, Shay" Zoe whispers to me.

"Huh?" I whisper back

"There's a party tonight at Jayden's, wanna go?" I'm not much of a partier but I enjoy them once and a while so I nodded my head yes. She smiled and went back to her paper.

---at lunch---

"Hey, Zane" I said.

"Oh hey Shailene. What's up?"

"Nothing much, are you going to Jayden's party?" I asked him.

He shook his head, "No, I'm busy."

"Oh, okay." I smiled.

Out of no where, he says, "Shay, I shouldn't of asked you out. It was stupid. I wasn't thinking. Can we just move on from it? I like you more as a friend, and when I thought I was going to lose you from the fire, I panicked. Besides, I don't do relationships. It wouldn't have worked out anyways. Sorry to lead you on like that, although, you should of known, Zane Wilde doesn't get involved with girls like you." My stomach dropped.

"Oh..I'm glad I said no. I wouldn't have wanted to date a self centered dick head like you anyways." I felt the tears run down my cheeks as I ran to the bathroom. How could he be so mean to me like that? What a dick. I actually thought he liked me and I hate him for that. I feel like an idiot. I should have known, this isn't some cliche, bad boy, good girl book, after all.

I was in the stall when someone walked in. I heard clicking of heals. Ugh, it was Katelyn and her side bitches. I put my feet up and listened to them.

Katelyn said, "Thank god Zane told her to fuck off. I was wondering when he was going to."

"I know right. He shouldn't be hanging around girls like her. She's a nerd. He should be with you Katelyn." Miranda said.

"What she said," Brittney said.

"Obviously. I'm going to thank him tonight at Jayden's party, if you know what I mean," all three girls laughed, "I'm surprised he took my money to ask her out a couple weeks ago. I had to give him more to tell her to buzz off today." Katelyn said. I felt like a dumbass. They were right. He shouldn't be with girls like me. I'm not talking to him ever again.

"Let's go girls. We have to convince him to go to the party now." With that, they all left and I let out a huge sob. I decided to leave the bathroom. I wasn't gonna cry over some something this stupid. I left the bathroom and ran into something.

"Ow...." I looked up. It was Eli. He was in my math class and he sits two seats behind me. He is kind of popular. He and Katelyn supposedly hooked up once I'm pretty sure. He is pretty smart though.

"Eli, I'm so sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going." I told him.

He looked at me, "It's fine. Are you okay?" I didn't realize I looked like crap from crying.

"Oh, yeah. I'm fine." I assured him.

"Are you sure? Wanna talk about it?" I'm surprised. We don't talk that much. Although we 'dated' in 3rd grade. Haha..

"Eh..." I said unsure.

He smiled, "Come on, wanna skip and go get coffee or something?" Wow. I didn't think he cared about me that much.

I smiled, "Sure, that sounds good."

---Panda Cafe---

"Okay so what's wrong?" He asked.

"Where do I begin? Well, it all started with Tommy. He cheated on me.." I began to explain, "and then today, Zane was a jerk and basically pretended to like me," then I told him about Katelyn in the bathroom, "and that's when I ran into you."

He frowned, "Well first of all, Tommy is jerk face for doing that to you. Second of all, Zane is also a jerk face for doing that to you. You don't deserve that. I think you should forget about Zane and Tommy and go on a date with me." I laughed.

"No, I'm serious. Will you go to the movies with me tomorrow?"

I said, "Really?"

"Of course. I can't believe I never noticed how attractive you are until a while ago. I've been wanting to ask you before you started tutoring Zane 4 months ago, but I thought you and Zane were a 'thing' or something."

"Oh..sure I would love to."

He smiled, "Great."

We stayed and hour or so and he drove me home. I was now watching The Walking Dead with my mom now. I got bored so I went upstairs and went on my phone. I got a text from Zoe.

Can I pick you up in 30?

Oh shit! The party, I totally forgot! Ugh. I just put on a blue dress that was tightly fitted around me. It was long sleeve and had a lace design on the back. I curled my hair and put on some makeup. I loved doing makeup and I was pretty good at it. I didn't wear heavy makeup to school, I only do it when I have free time, just for practice, ya know? I just did a dark smokey eye, with some lip gloss.

I heard a honk, and ran downstairs. I just put on some nude heals and went out the door. Before I shut it, I yelled, "Bye mom, love you."

Once I got in her car, she said, "Damn girl you look hot!"

I laughed, "You look gorgeous and thank you!"

Jayden was in the car as well. "Hey Jayden."

"Hey," he smiled, "what's going on with you and Zane?"

I frowned, "He just played me, basically pretended he liked me."

"What? I didn't know, I'm sorry. I'll talk to him." He told me.

"No, please don't. I'm just trying to move on. I have a date tomorrow anyways. See I'm fine."

"With who," Zoe asked.

"Eli," I told them.

"Really?" Jayden said.

"Yeah, what's wrong with him?" I said defending Eli.

"Nothing, it's just Zane hates him."

"I don't really care what Zane thinks. He has no say in what I do. We were nothing and I was nothing to him," I felt tears coming back but I sucked it up, "He said he doesn't get involved with girls like me. I'm okay really. I thought he wasn't that bad but I thought wrong."

"Oh Shay I'm so sorry." Zoe said, looking at me.

"Zoe keep your eyes on the road!" I yelled.

"Oh yeah, sorry."

Jayden said, "I thought he liked you for sure though. He always talked about you."

"I don't know, maybe Katelyn paid him for that too," I laughed to myself.

"What?" they both said in unison.

"Katelyn paid him to ask me out in the hospital and to tell me all those things today. Basically to play me."

"That low life skank! She will-" I cut her off.

"Zoe, it's fine. He obviously should be with her if he would agree to that."

"Maybe he has a reason you guys." Jayden said.

"Really? You're going to defend him?" Zoe said, getting angry.

"I'm just saying, he isn't the wealthiest. He could use the money."

"Can we just talk about something else?"

Zoe said, "Well we are here now, so let's just get drunk and forget about him."

"Okay," I smiled.
