Before I get to the chapter, I just want to make a few things clear to you all. You can go ahead and skip this if you want, but I'd just like to remind you all of something.
Usually, I would update three chapters almost every week. I haven't posted a new chapter on any of my books in a few weeks. I have a lot going on. I'm backed up with my school work, trying to be there for my mom -who has cancer- and most of all trying to be a better me. Family comes first to me, and I'll try to update more, but I just want to explain to you all as to why I haven't been updating like myself lately.
Ryan's pov:
There's a baby. A sense of anger washes over me. It sends my wolf into a drive for more blood than he's ever wanted. I want to rip Alex to pieces for taking my mate. I cannot. Killing an child is completely going against the code of an Alpha.
Alex heaves out a breath, and glares at me. His eyes are a dark shade of blue, covering his face is dirt and blood. I'm still. I don't know what to do, nor how to react.
A chill runs down my spine. I stare into Alex's eyes, trying to come up with the most insulting words that I can to have him come after me. I can say that he attacked me first and kill him. It could be self defense. My mind comes up blank.
I want to act on my wolf instinct to jump and attack him. I hold myself back. My heart begins to beat faster in my chest as my wolf repeats a chant I didn't think I'd hear again.
Mate! Mate! Mate! Mate! I turn towards the house. I don't think to even worry about Alex attacking at this point. I'm distracted, and I'm completely okay with that right now.
"Ryan." Her soft voice calls. It's scratchy, and her eyes are swollen and red. She's been crying. My heart sinks to see his upset, but swells at the sight of her.
"Taylor," I can hardly bring the words out. Is this real, or just a dream? Her bottom lip quivers, and within seconds I have her wrapped inside of my arms. She smells like Alex, but I push past that.
"Ryan." She whispers. Her heart is beating fast, and she's crying uncontrollably.
"It's okay, baby. Are you okay? Did he hurt you?" I ask, cupping her face and trying to search her eyes for any damage. Her bottom lip quivers, and she looks over towards Alex. He had shifted, and is now holding his bloody nose.
"N-no." She lied to me. She lied to us. My eyebrows furrowed, and I rubbed the tears from under her eyes.
"What did he do to you?" I seeth, my wolf furious that she would feel the need to lie to me. I look towards Alex, he has a mocking grin on his face. I clench my jaw and look back at Taylor.
"Nothing!" She lies again. My heart breaks inside of me. Why won't she just tell me what happened to her?? Is she afraid of me?
"Tell him what you told me, Taylor." Lucas says. I'm silent. What did he tell her? A million and one scenarios run through my mind. I can't decided on which one seems more logical.
Her bottom lip quivers. She looks between Alex, Lucas and myself. A steady stream of tears run down her face. She's fighting herself. Trying to keep herself calm. I remember that about her, she used to do this all the time when she was upset.
"Taylor..." I beg for her to answer me. To give me some sort of subtle hint so that I can figure out what she had told Lucas. My wolf whines, begging for her to just spill everything.
Her eyes don't lock on me. They stay on Alex. She let's out a slow breath, and pushes herself away from me. I can't breath.
Taylor wipes her eyes, and looks down at the ground. "I- I can't bring myself to do it, Ryan." She croaks. What is she talking about?
"You're not rejecting me...are you?" My voice cracks. She's the only thing I've ever wanted. She cannot reject me. How could she? I love her with all my heart.
Her eyes sadden more. "No- it- no." She sobs, shaking her head violently. I look towards Lucas who is standing between Alex and I. He has a sympathetic look upon his face.
"If you don't tell him, I will, Taylor." Lucas huffs, angry now. I look back at Taylor, and she glances at Alex and then back at me.
"The baby..." She starts. My heart drops to the floor.
"It's yours?" I ask. Her eyes are filled with tears and she can only look up at me for a matter of seconds before looking back at the ground.
"Yeah.." She sobs. I don't know how to feel. My wolf is furious, and the more I think about this man being with my mate, and having her mind confused about what's right, the more I want to get my hands on him and kill him. I clench my jaw, and go silent.
