On an adventure in muggle London at some point in fourth year, Sirius over heard a small group of girls explaining the "step on a crack-break your mothers back" superstition to a friend. Sirius soon began both instinctively and deliberately stepping on ever crack in the street in the hope that he might finally do something worthwhile to a member of the Black family.
