It had been a while since the war broke out, nobody was exactly having an easy time, but on this one evening everything seemed just as it had been a few short months ago, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew were all gathered in the cosy living room of James and Lily Potter, they were enjoying a few drinks and reminiscing memories of their years at Hogwarts. The tight knit group had just finished laughing at Sirius' retelling of the first time Peter rode a broom, when Lily adjusted herself in her seat and reached over for the hand of her husband who squeezed her hand back reassuringly, Lily cleared her throat and began, "So, as you've probably guessed, we have some news to share with you all..."
She was quickly cut off by Sirius who's face was suddenly solemn, "Spare yourself, Lily" he began dramatically "James has already told us the terrible news." He hung his head in overly exaggerated sadness leaving everyone but Lily looking very confused, Lily turned to her husband with a fierce look in her eyes, James quickly threw his hands up defensively, "I don't know what he's on about, honest, I don't."
Lily's head snapped around so she could meet Sirius' eyes, "Black! Explain, sharpish."
Sirius continued to shake his head as he said, "The cat, we know about the cat, I can honestly say I feel nothing but betrayal."
A look of relief spread across Lily's face as she realised Sirius was, typically, being over dramatic, "Not the cat you goddamned idiot." She took a long breath as James' arm wrapped around her shoulder, "We are soon to have another Marauder in our midst." She and James smiled hopefully waiting for the reaction of their friends.
A small smile crept onto Remus' face as he knew this was something James always wanted, he placed a hand on Lily's knee and whispered a small congratulations to the couple before sitting back to watch the reaction of Sirius and Peter.
Peter looked confused as though he couldn't quite work out what Lily had meant, to help him out James leaned over and said "A baby, Peter, we're having a baby." Peter smiled more genuinely than he had smiled since the war broke out, he was speechless but the couple knew he meant well.
All the while Sirius had been sat in silence, all four pairs of eyes now turned to look at him, in a barley audible whisper he said "but we're not ready."
"What do you mean 'we're not ready'? I think James and I are more than capable of raising a child." Lily demanded, feeling suddenly defensive over the accusations of her parenting skills.
"I mean yeah, you're ready, but look at Pete, he can just about make his own toast in the morning , I'm scared Remus might shake so much he would drop the poor thing." Sirius replied, leaving Lily in a state of extreme confusion.
James was the next to speak, " He's not wrong you know, I thought you realised when you married me that we come in a 'buy-1-get-3-free' package."
Lily stood up in a huff, "I can't believe you're going to make him the godfather." She left the room satisfied she had caused Sirius enough trauma for one day.
