Drip. Drip. Drip.

Crimson liquid dripped onto the tatami mat.

"H-Hasebe... R-Run.." Your hand applied more force on the hilt of the sword, forcing him to take a step back. There was stillness on both sides.

"Aruji-sama, I will not run away!" The balance was disrupted, as Hasebe pushed with all his might, causing you to move back until you met the wall, still resisting against his sword. All of a sudden, you lost the colour from your face, swaying to a side before Hasebe caught you and slowly lowered you to the ground. Carrying you to a spare room, he stood by your side till daybreak.

It wasn't the first time that this had happened.

Streaks of sunlight penetrated the translucent door as you opened your eyes. Hasebe sat beside and looked at you worriedly. A bandage was seen wrapped around his palm.

"Aruji-sama! Are you alright?" Frantically, he helped you sit up as you struggled.

"Hasebe, did I... cause you that injury?"

Surprised at your question, he instinctively covered his palm with his other hand, but it was to no avail.

"...Yes."

Bringing your head to your knees, you gave a sigh, not wanting to hurt him further anymore.

This is the second time...

"Just... leave me alone for a while. It's an order." Adding the word 'order' to make him leave your room, he complied.

"As you wish."

It was all because of a spiked green tea.

Receiving resources from the soldier, you were about to leave when the soldier stopped you.

"Saniwa-sama, there's a gift from your family. Please accept it." Handing the item clad in an exquisite cloth, the soldier left, leaving you to ponder on the reason why your family would send a gift to you when it wasn't your birthday. Walking back to the entrance in the citadel, you met Hasebe who was about to get on the horseback.

"Aruji-sama! Is that a gift from your family?"

"Yeah, it's chock full of green tea powder. I'll make some tea for you guys! Come back early!"

Nagging at him, you went to the kitchen to make tea. Water soon boiled and you poured into the cup. Deciding to taste it first, you sipped a little. Putting the cup of tea down, you called the old man to come here. You thought it would be best if he tasted it.

"Aruji, what is it?"

You were about to reply when a sudden surge of throbbing pain hit you.

"Urgh..!"

Grabbing your chest, you knelt down; ragged breaths soon took over you. He realised something bad was happening to his master, and yet he didn't know what to do.

"Aruji!! What's happening?! Hang on!!" Holding your shoulders, he shouted for other people to come and help; at this time Hasebe came back. Hearing the shoutings, he rushed to where it came from. To his horror, you were completely unconscious by now, not reacting to anything.

"Aruji!! Can you hear me?! Open your eyes!!" Shaking your body, he shouted for you, and nothing happened. Thinking the worse, he put his fingers on your neck, checking for any pulse.

A slow, weak beat was felt. You were barely hanging onto life.

"Jiji! Call the Government and ask them to send a doctor here! Everyone, stay away from the kitchen! No one is allowed to leave the citadel!" Barking out orders, he carried you swiftly to a room packed full of emergency and medical supplies. Applying what you had taught him, he did all he could to keep you in this world. Holding your hand and bringing it near to his head, he prayed deeply.

"Please... don't leave me..."
