The guards looked shocked at first then confusion set in. It was like the confusion enabled them to move. So of course I took this little frame of time to hit them each in the temple. Both guards fell to the ground knocked out. I smiled slightly before I began down the hall.
I carefully and silently ran down the hall, taking only right turns. I saw a stair case in front of me and I let out a small sigh of relief. My sigh was drown out by a roaring growl and then shouts. I quickened my pace till I was in a dead sprint.
Racing up the stairs I heard another growling roar. The stairs were longer then I thought and by the time I reach the first landing I was out of breathe. I slowed my pace as I continued up the stairs. I reached the top of the stairs and smiled happily.
A large window was to my left. Moonlight poured in it but guards were racing around shouting to regroup. My smile vanished from my face when I saw what the were fighting. A dragon.
The dragon was huge, its body glowed a inviting blue. The dragon glowed a soft blue but its body was the same pearly color of the moon. It didn't have horns on its head and it didn't appear to breathe fire. But the dragon's tail whipped out and took out ten of the frantic guards.
I ran straight to the window and slammed into it. The glass shattered and everyone froze. The dragon almost seemed to smiled as it leaped over the line of guards, landing right in front of me.
"Cameron. Correct," the dragon's voice was loud but gentle at the same time. "My name is Moon-Berry and my father sent me to return you to your friends. It would be nice if you could get on my back so we can leave."
"Um," I didn't know what to say.
"Come on now," Moon-Berry then bent his head so I could jump on.
And I did jump on only because I knew only Toby would ask dragons to retrieve me. Moon-Berry suddenly jumped and we were flying. I clutched the dragons neck as he flew up into the sky. I sat up when he began to glide on the wind currents.
The sight was breathe taking. A smile formed on my lips. The sight reminded me of Scarlett. Why you wonder? I don't know, it just did.
"Miss her," Moon-Berry's voice shattered my thoughts.
"Yeah. I can't stop thinking about her to tell you the truth," I replied. "And since you are going to take me back to her, you deserve the truth."
"The bond you share is stronger then most," his voice filled with sorrow. "I once had a soul-mate but that evil bitch that calls herself a queen took that away from me."
"I know me saying sorry won't do much because I know I'd die if anything ever happened to Scarlett but I am sorry," I shook my head clear of the thought.
"Thank you, Cameron," Moon-Berry flew higher and turned slightly left.
"Why do we have soul mates," it was a stupid question but I had to ask.
"Not everyone does. Most people do but few actual find each other," the dragon almost seemed to smile again. "You are very lucky to have found your soul mate Cameron. Very lucky."
"But every time I'm father then ten seconds away I lose myself. I become reckless and I don't want to live because I'm not with her," I sighed. This was the first time is actually spoke how it felt. "It is the worst feeling ever. It's like someone just ripped my heart out and left me laying in a puddle of my own blood."
"Trust me, my boy," the dragons voice was understanding. "I know the feeling. It hurts. It's the worst pain you will ever feel."
"We are almost there," I said blankly. "It feels like my heart is being replaced."
