I climbed off of Storm-Brooke not know where we were. Sesame yawned and stretched before coming to stand next to me. She looked at me expectantly. I yawned and shook my head.
"Come on. Lets go hunt before they do rise," I whispered.
I unhooked the supply cart from Storm-Brooke and took off her saddle and lead. I mounted her bare-back and grabbed my arrows and bow. I nodded to Sesame and she took off, nose to the ground.
We followed her quietly into a clearing. Sesame froze looking at something. I followed her gaze and saw a huge deer, grazing alone. I slowly lifted my bow to it. I aimed for the neck and let go of the string.
The arrow flew with perfect accuracy straight towards the deer. The deer fell moments later and Sesame raced off to go get it. Now we would have something to eat.
Sesame dragged it back to camp where Cameron and Toby both were awake, talking.
"Morning guys," I stifled another yawn.
"Scarlett! Where did you go? We were scared you had been kidnapped," Cameron exclaimed running towards me.
Sesame let out a growl, she didn't like that he was running right at me. I motioned for him to stop and then pointed to the deer. Toby smiled at it.
"Awesome! Great catch Scarlett," Toby congratulated.
"Who wants to skin it and get it ready while I get the fire ready," I asked.
"I'll do it," Toby said pulling out a knife from his boot.
He approached Sesame and the deer, knife in hand. Sesame took it as a threat and tackled him. She bit his wrist and he let go of the knife.
"Easy Sesame," I said with a hint of amusement. "He wants the deer, not you or me."
But when she backed off of him he shifted and snarled at her. Sesame's fur rose and her lips pulled back into a snarl. Toby lunged at her but she dodged him and leaped right into his side. Her teeth were at his neck in a second.
Toby whined in defeat and Sesame let him up. Toby shifted back and looked at Sesame in amazement.
"No one has been able to defeat me in ages," he exclaimed.
'Idiot. To proud of himself to even think of how strong I might be.' Sesame thought.
I grinned and motioned for Cameron and Sesame to follow. Toby picked up the knife and began to work on the deer as we left.
"Cameron. I'm kinda sorry about last night," I said grabbing a few sticks.
"Kinda? I'm deeply offended Scarlett Rose," he exclaimed.
"Well thats all of an apology you're getting," I snapped.
"Jeez! I was just kidding! Whats wrong now," Cameron exclaimed again.
"Just a nightmare really shook me," I gulped. I couldn't tell him the prophecy!
"What was the nightmare about," Cameron questioned.
"Nothing you need to be concerned about! And start getting firewood! Thats what we are here for," I said turning away from him.
Tears burned my eyes but I didn't let them fall. As soon as we got as much fire wood as we could carry we headed back.
"Scarlett please don't be mad. I was just asking," he whispered.
I shook my head and began piling up wood. I found the match kit and struck a match. The fire was huge to say the least. Cameron just groomed Sky-Ghost, his expression was hurt. I longed to go over and huge him and tell him I was truly ok but I didn't.
"Uh Scarlett I hate to be a bother but is everything ok," Toby asked gently.
"No. It's not," I turned back to shaping a stick to roast the deer on.
He thankfully left it alone. Soon we were all eating roasted deer. It tasted wonderful. We ate what we wanted and I packed the rest up for later that day. It wasn't even noon high by the time we were ready to go.
"I thought of a name for my unicorn," Toby said smiling.
"Cool," I muttered.
"His name is Fate. Do you like it," he asked nervously.
"Yeah. Thats pretty cool," I murmured.
We continued on silently till Sesame's growl rang out. I followed her gaze to see a wolf, not a half-wolf either. Toby growled too but before he could even shift, Sesame had tackled the wolf.
'Should I kill it. It's a minion of Rick Baylock's.' Sesame thought.
"Hold on Sesame. Let Toby talk to it," I motioned for Toby to shift.
Minutes that felt like hours ticked by. Finally Toby shifted back and nodded to me.
"Go head Sesame," I said grimly.
She sunk her teeth into its throat and gave a quick shake and it was over. She threw the limp body into the brush and walked back to my side.
"Well Toby. What did it say," Cameron asked.
"He was a wolf owned by Baylock. He was sent out to find us and alert Baylock of where we were. H was sent with five others. So they are on their way back right now to report us," Toby reported as he climbed up on Fate's back.
"Wonderful. Lets go then," Cameron said motioning me to lead.
I kicked my heels into Storm-Brooke's flank and we raced off. Sesame rode in the supply cart. Cameron and Toby rode on each side of me as we raced through the forest.
We broke through the tree line and we were then running down a hill, straight for a river. There was a mountain past the river. We didn't slow till we reached river.
"Jacksonville River. If you follow it all the way down, it leads right to Mudge Isle, a mile behind the clan home. That's why all the outsiders call our home 'town' Jacksonville Mudge Isle. I'm guessing my mom said it that way," Toby smiled to himself.
"So is it safe to cross," I asked. "Like no strong currents or anything like that?"
"Nope. At least its safe to cross at home," he said.
"Well I don't want anyone dead so be care guys," I warned.
"We have an angry pack of wolves behind us and an evil dude," Cameron exclaimed. "I think we should go now before he--"
"Oh I'm so flattered! You guys are talking about me," a voice mocked.
I turned Storm-Brooke around in a flash.
"Rick Baylock. Nice to see you. Again," I spat.
