I sat upon Storm-Brooke's back, all my friends and loyal allies that the Dream Ghost had managed to round up, fanned out behind me. I felt powerful, but most of all right. The guard's eyes filled with fear as they rose their swords. Ari sat on a pitch black unicorn with dark emerald eyes at the front of them all, hatred filling her dark grey eyes. Shadowers also fanned out behind her.
I grinned wickedly at her and and rose my anima-gladio and screamed the word that I had been waiting to yell for years. Attack.
Just like hat the Shadowers flooded forward, the few loyal guards raced along side them. I plunged into battle, slicing and stabbing at the Shadowers. Sesame easily darted under guards and ripped their necks out from the back.
My unicorn's horn was bloodied by the dark, black blood of a Shadower. A huge ten foot shadower yowled as a dragon ripped him to shreds. We were winning.
I leaped forward and stabbed a guard in the neck before he could kill the pixie. I quickly decapitated the guard she was fighting. The pixie threw me a thankful look before floating high up in the air to sprinkle pixie dust on a few big Shadowers. Pixie dust turned Shadowers to ash.
A guard lunged at me but I easily sunk my sword into his neck. Sesame barked a warning and I whipped around to stab whatever it was coming at me. A huge Shadower yowled a battle cry before lashing its arm out at me.
Storm-Brooke reared, her horn sinking into the arm of the Shadower. I slashed it arm right off and ran straight into it, anima-gladio sinking into its flesh. I then headed over to Hannah who was fight beside her dad.
She held a protective bubble around them as her father shot out bolts of lightning. I nodded at her respectively before heading for my main target. Ari.
I sliced through the crowd, my mind focused on her. If I could kill Ari it'd basically be over. I knew that Rick Baylock's energy was tied to hers so if she died, he'd pass out until the tying spell was lifted. Then I saw her, striking down pixie after warlock after person. Sesame growled and we leaped forward.
When Ari saw me she smiled cruelly. Sesame lunged at the guard protecting her and ripped him to shreds. Although the battle was loud with screams, battle cries and swords clashing, I could hear Ari perfectly.
"Think you can win eh," she laughed. "For every Shadower you kill another two are made."
And I realized what she was saying was true. It was Rick. I had to kill either her to make him pass out or kill him.
"I don't think Ari. I know," I said calmly then threw myself at her.
Our swords clashed and sparks flew. Sesame was keeping everyone back so the fight could be fair. I couldn't bring myself to hurt her unicorn yet. All my hunter training and my fight training I learned took over.
I slashed out at her arm and she went to defend it but then I cut her other arm. I had always been the fastest in my class. Ari yelled out in pain. It was her sword arm. My smile widened as she dropped her sword.
"I told you I'd win," I whispered as I rose the sword above my head.
Just as I was about to bring it down, a shape pain shot up my leg, distracting me from Ari. And when I whirled around it was none other then Rick Baylock.
"So we meet again," he said but I cut him off by lunging, and stabbing into his unprotected chest.
"Yes," I said. "I told you I'd kill you one day."
And he fell, off his unicorn and collapsing on the ground in a heap. Suddenly all the Shadowers began disappearing, screaming. But I didn't even hesitate to whip around. But Ari wasn't there. Sesame was racing after her, as fast as she could run on three legs.
I pushed Storm-Brooke forward and we leaped the bodies and raced after her. As we gained on her I shouted ahead to Sesame to stop and check on the others. She nodded slightly as we raced passed her.
We had almost caught Ari when her unicorn fell. Ari was thrown off as the unicorn collapsed. Storm-Brooke trotted up to them and I leaped off of her.
"So this is how it ends," she whispered.
"What did you want something more romantic," I asked, my voice dripping with sarcasm.
"I always thought we'd be friends," Ari's voice came out horsely.
"Friends? Come on. You always hated me. I wanted to be friends but you blew it hon. And now you call yourself the queen," I laughed. "You are nothing to me."
I then brought the sword down, it sunk into her stomach. Ari had her eyes closed as her last breath slipped out of her parted lips. A single tear dripped down my face for Ari. I wasn't heartless even for this bitch.
"It's over," I whispered.
"It's over," Cameron echoed. "You did it."
"I did it. It's over," I whispered and fell into Cameron, kissing him fiercely.
He kissed me back. His kiss was sweet and full of happiness and victory. I smiled blissfully when he pulled away.
"We have to check on the others," I told him and he nodded.
"Hannah, her father and her father's friends are all helping with the injuries," Cameron suddenly looked sad. "Dan."
I looked at him full of panic. Not Dan. He couldn't be dead.
"Dan," tears began dripping down Cameron's face. "Dan didn't make it."
I crumpled to the ground, my head in my hands, sobbing.
"No. No. No," I screamed. "He's not dead."
My whole body shook from my sobs. No was all I could whisper. Dead? My childhood friend, dead? Was it possible? Memories flooded back to me. Dan helping me with my sword fighting. Dan fighting alongside me in countless battles. Dan. Sweet, lovable Dan. Dead.
"Scarlett," it was Toby. "He died the way he wanted to. In battle. He's with our dear friend the Dream Ghost now."
"No," I whispered, sobs still racking my body.
I was pulled into Toby's warm, sweaty body. His arms wrapped around me as I cried.
We must have stayed there for at least ten minutes before I fainted. It was over and I had lost my best friend.
