Chapter 19

Anna's POV:

After Riley told us about what happened with the douche John, we decided to go to dinner so we headed upstairs to Riley's room to get ready. I took this opportunity to think about all that we have been through together and how she left out what has been happening to her. I remember that one time her Nana had died and she told me that her world had collapsed around her. I promised myself that after that day we would always be friends because being only 1 of the few people she trusted, I couldn't let myself walk away from her. My word had changed after that day because even though she wasn't my Nana, the first time I met her it was amazing.

Flashback:

Today is the last day of June and Riley and her family are going up to Minnesota to see her Nana I was going to miss her so much and I hoped that we could do something fun when she gets back. I go to take a shower and when I come back a few minutes later, my phone starts to ring and I See Riley's name so I answer it.

"Hi loser"

"Hey I have some very exciting news for you! My Parents said that if you want to come with us to Minnesota that would be fine as long as your parents agree."

"Are you kidding me?! Of course I'll go let me just go talk to my mom and dad I'll call you back in a few!"

"Ok I'll talk to you in a few."

With that she hung up and I went to talk to my mom and dad. After a few minutes of debating they finally said I Could go but I better be on my best behavior. I was so excited I called Riley Right away and she came over to help me pack. We finally left a few hours later and I was super excited to get there.

2 Days Later:

Today was the day that I get to meet Riley's Nana. We arrived yesterday,but decided it way better to go see her today because we were all pretty tired. Was starting to get nervous and I guessed Riley sensed it because she came over to comfort me. "Anna it's alright my Nana is a sweetheart. She is exactly like me except more generous and less mean- okay maybe we're not that alike, but I'm telling you she will love you because you're my best friend." "Thanks Riley that really helped. You ready cause I am." I said and Riley giggled before leading the way to hear. We pulled up to an assisted living home. We walked inside and started to go to the elevator until someone called Riley's name. Riley turned around and a smile appeared on her face. "Nana How are you feeling I missed you so much." Riley said walking over to her Nana while giving her a hug and kiss. "I'm good I've missed you too." She then turned to me and looked me straight in eyes "Riley who is this lovely lady we have here?" "Nana this is my best friend Anna." "You mean the Anna? The one you talk about all the time?" "Yes Nana." "Well Anna it's a pleasure to meet you,you have made my great-granddaughter so happy and I want to thank you for that. Ever since my husband died I know that she hasn't been the same and seeing her for the first time since then I can see I have my Riley back so thank you." She said to me and I could almost feel the tears running down my cheeks.

It was that night when Riley told me what was really going on in her life, and I knew that the strong Riley I had come to no was not this broken down crying faced girl. Seeing her after she told us about John I felt as if I had lost her again. I wouldn't let that happen and I knew I had to get her to talk.After a long needed silence, I decided to break the silence. "Look I know you don't want to talk about it but I want you to know I'm here for you always." "I didn't want to tell the boys, but....."
