Chapter 6: Bad things at bad times

Nathan's POV:

The days seemed to go by quickly. Days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months. It was about two months ago when me and Jacob started this journey and so much had happened in a short amount of time. We made many friends with many of our favorite Nintendo characters. Jacob even caught a Riolu and managed to evolve it into Lucario. I was happy and jealous at the same time. I was happy because he had Lucario for his partner Pokémon and I was jealous because my Eevee didn't evolve yet. But I didn't really care to be honest. I liked Eevee just the way she was.

But I think the best part of this was how calm everything was. Except for the fight between Pit and Dark Pit when we first came here and our encounter with Gyarados nothing disruptive seemed to happen. But then one day during lunch me and Jacob were sitting next to some friends when all of a sudden my phone rang. I pulled it out of my pocket and saw that my mom was calling me.

Me: "Excuse me, everyone, but I have to take this. Jacob, can you watch Eevee for me until I get back?"

Jacob: "Sure."

Me: "Thanks. I shouldn't take more than five minutes." I got up and went to an empty corner in the cafe. I answered my phone. "Hello?"

Mom: "H-Hi." She was talking in a stuffy voice like she was crying.

Me: "Hi mom. Is something wrong?"

Mom: "Um... 'sniff' Y-Yes." She started to cry.

Me: "what is it?"

Mom: "Your f-father 'sniff' is in the h-h-hospital."

Me: "What? Why?"

Mom: "H-He was home alone and 'sniff' s-someone b-broke in and 'sniff' st-stabbed him." I didn't speak. "T-The doctor said that 'sniff' he m-may not m-m-make it." She started crying. I started crying too.

Me: "I'm sorry, mom. Do you want me to come over there?"

Mom: "No. S-Stay at c-college and I'll 'sniff' c-call you if anything c-comes up."

Me: I sighed. "Ok, mom. I love you. Tell dad I said hi ok?"

She didn't answer for she had hung up. I put my phone in my pocket and wiped a tear from my face. I couldn't believe what I had just heard. I walked back to my table and sat down. I kept my head down.

Jacob: "Is everything ok, Nathan?"

Me: I wiped a tear from my eye. "I just found out that my dad is in the hospital." Everyone at our table must have heard me because they all stopped talking. "The doctor said that he may not make it." I started to cry.

Jacob: "Don't worry, Nathan. We're all here for you. It's like I said when we first got here. If one of us falls the other can pick you back up. That's what friends do." I smiled softly.

Before anyone could say anything else we heard some screaming coming from outside. We all went to the nearest window and looked outside. There were giant creatures coming out of portals. One of the creatures charged towards us. We all moved out of the way just as it smashed through the wall. The creature looked at me. It had a face that looked like a shield and a black body with red lines. It was a creature from the twilight realm, but why was it here. It came towards me and tried to grab me but Samus shot it before it could. She jumped in front of me and continued to fight the beast.

Samus: "Get out of here while you still can!" I ran towards Jacob and we both ran outside.

Me: "Wait! Where's Eevee?"

Jacob: "I thought she was behind you!"

I started scanning the area for Eevee. I soon saw her trying to fight a beast.

Me: "Eevee, Don't!" Eevee looked at me. The monster raised a fist. "Look out!"

Before the monster could crush Eevee someone dived after her and came towards us. It was Midna. She handed me Eevee.

Midna: "Come on, we have to get you out of here!"

We all ran down the nature trail until we got to the lake. We looked behind us. The creatures were following us.

Me: "Can't you make a portal or something?"

Midna: "I could but they would follow us in."

Jacob: "Then the only thing we can do is fight!" Jacob pulled out a pokéball and threw it. "Go, Lucario!" Lucario came out of the pokéball. "Use bone rush!" Lucario created a blue bone and started attacking the beasts but it was no use. Every time a creature died another creature let out a screech that brought it back up.

Me: "We can't defeat them."

Then the creatures stopped attacking. Lucario stopped too. From behind the beasts a tall figure with a big metal helmet approached us. We knew right away who it was, Zaunt. There was also a mysterious black orb with a star on it floating next to him. When he was in the front of the crowd he stopped. Lucario was at the ready. I heard Eevee growling so I put her down in front of me.

Zaunt: "Ah, there they are."

Midna: "What do you want, Zaunt?"

Zaunt: "Isn't it obvious? I'm here for them."

Midna: "Well if  you want to get them you're going to have to get through me an Lucario." Lucario's aura started to glow stronger.

Zaunt: "Alright then."

He turned to the orb and it shot a dark net at them. They moved out of the way in time but it captured Jacob.

Me: "No, Jacob!" He didn't respond. "Why are you doing this?" Zaunt didn't answer.

The net rose up and sent Jacob into a portal.

Zaunt: "Now, kill him!"

All the beasts charged towards me. I closed my eyes not knowing what to expect. I then heard something shoot at the ground in front of me. I looked up and saw all the beasts running away. I then looked up above me and saw a ship shooting at the beasts. Everyone was retreating except the orb that looked at me. It shot a dark net at me but Midna jumped in the way and got caught. I quickly tried to untie her. By the time I had freed her the last of the beasts were going into the last portal. When they were all gone everyone started cheering. Link came over to us.

Link: "Are you ok?"

Midna: "I'm a little bruised up but I'll be ok dear." She giggled a little.

Eevee came towards me and I hugged her.

Me: "We're ok too. Why were those thing here and why did they want me and Jacob?"

Link: "I don't know. This is the first time something like this has happened."

Me: "They took Jacob. You have to bring him back."

Link: "I would but I don't even know where they took him."

Midna: "Don't worry, we will find him."

I looked around. There was destruction everywhere. This day had went from normal, to bad, to worst. I then saw Lucario. He was staring at the spot where Jacob disappeared. I looked next to me and saw his pokéball. I picked it up and walked over to him (And yes, this time I checked). He didn't seem to care about anything that was happening around him so I threw the pokéball and he went inside. I then picked it up and walk towards my dorm.
