"You're looking quite stunning today, Jane." Jeremy complimented. I smiled and looked out the window. He went on, "It's not your usual. I must say I quite like the other dresses better but this one will do fine for now, I suppose." There he goes again.
"Well, Jeremy, I much prefer guys with brown hair and a brain. But I suppose the carrot color you've got going and your one minuscule, pathetic brain cell will just have to do for now." I stared out the window, refusing to look at him and willed the car to go faster so I could ditch him ASAP. He cocked his head in shock but said nothing and I sighed in relief. Luckily he didn't retaliate, otherwise I'd have to bring up the fact that he preferred cucumber instead of pizza slices. Mother wouldn't be too pleased with that little fact. Though, I'm sure she'd make me marry him either way.
We reached the Square soon after our little one-sided quarrel and I got out of the hovercar before he could open the door for me. I smoothed out the wrinkles in my dress just as Jeremy held out his arm for me to take. I hooked arms with him and we walked into the Square.
The Square was literally a giant glass cube in the middle of our Section. It was what made Sec.2 one of the best sections around. Inside was literally paradise. Mum and dad had only taken Cody and I once or twice seeing as it was so expensive and too full to get in, but I was with Jeremy now and he had an exceedingly fat wallet, and an expensive - yet repulsive - face that simply no one could overlook or forget. In my case, the remembrance came because he'd literally seared his ugly exterior into my long-term memory and until the day I die, I will never forget those despicable features.
The Square was a type of exhibition, a showcase of what our world used to be like. Walking right to the front, ignoring the line of angry and slightly annoyed faces, Jeremy flipped out that thick wallet of his, paid our way inside and that was that. I smiled at the man who let us through the red velvet ropes and two people opened the black curtain into a mystical wonderland made for the ignorant, me being one of them.
Multiple collections of plant life and insects lay within this cube of mystery. It had that type of airy-fairy feeling that made my tummy tingle with delight. All the plants were contained behind fences so as not to be damaged and the insects literally just flew around wherever they pleased. People in fancy dresses and suits pranced around, admiring the beauty of what was left of our world.
Every plant in the building gave off a sort of tropical feel and on the holographic signs near the entrance, it read 'Rainy Season'. The Square alternates between seasons, so there was a period for summer, a period for winter, spring, and that other one where all the leaves are all brown and red and yellow and orange. I can't remember the name. And now it was rainy season.
I wonder what that one would've looked like. In winter, I remember, everything was covered in thick white confetti stuff. I think they used to call it powder or something like that. It was so beautiful. But being in here now, experiencing the rainy season, I couldn't tell which one was more beautiful.
Jeremy and I walked a little, looking around at the tall trees and pretty flowers. Men in dark red penguin suits pranced around with shiny silver badges with their names on it and wonderful platters of bite-sized food on it. Jeremy had offered a small rice thing with pink stuff on it but I was too busy looking around to eat anything. I'd almost forgotten why I came here until I caught sight of Dylan smirking at me from across the pathway. I tensed just as Jeremy began rambling. "I never liked plants. So glad they're all extinct."
