My mind whirled in the car ride home, not only from my intense alcohol consumption. But also from Jeremy's request. He was right. He could give me everything I've ever wanted. Only thing was, I couldn't give him anything in return. Because all of me belonged to someone else. Regardless of whether we were going to be together after this or not.
My mother seemed to be oblivious to my intoxicated state and surprisingly enough, I went to bed without any new bruises or a stinging face. I think I was asleep for about fifteen minutes before the shouting began. My head pounded. My eyes stung and my tummy felt like it was about to explode.
Rushing over to my bathroom, I threw up the nights contents into the toilet, sighed and sat back against the wall. Really? They were arguing now? Of all times? When I had a massive hangover awaiting me? I growled in frustration, begging the gods above to make it stop.
And as if my prayers were answered, the shouting ceased. Weird, the bastards never answered any of my other prayers before.
Standing, I wobbled over to my door, my legs jiggling like jelly. I swayed down the passage, through the dark kitchen and hovered near the study door where my parents yelled at each other in hushed tones.
"What do you mean 'all the money's gone'?" my mother asked viciously.
"I mean, there's no more!" my father replied, equally as soft and vicious.
I leaned in and pressed my ear to the tinted glass, trying in my drunken state to hear what the hell they were talking about.
"The wedding took it all. We'll have nothing by the end of next month." Dad said.
Silence.
"The wedding..." she struggled with her words, mumbling out an indecipherable code I couldn't understand. "Th-There has to b-be something we can do–"
"Do you not understand what I'm telling you?" My father cut her off. "By the end of next month, we won't have anything. We'll be declared bankrupt."
I pushed away from the door, looking at it as if it was a girl that just tried to hit on me, sauntered back to my room with jiggly legs, and went to sleep. And for the first time in a long time, I slept peacefully, the alcohol putting me to bed nice and easy, and taking away my troubles, at least for a few hours.
Jeremy took me on a trip the next day, a surprise trip. Apparently, I was going to love it. My head throbbed like I'd just been hit by a fucking sledgehammer. I looked like Cher on one of her good days. The bags under my eyes could probably carry two tons of water and my body decided it was going to appear incredibly fat in the dress I blindly picked out this morning. All in all, I felt like shit.
But apparently, Jeremy darling's surprise trip would make me happy.
When we arrived at our destination, I wanted to saw Jeremy's head off.
"The surprise place is the fucking mall?"
He smiled. "Yeah. You don't have any clothing for Ultra so, I thought, why not bring her to the mall? Spoil her a little."
I quirked an eyebrow, surprised, and my anger easing slightly. "You're gonna buy me clothing?" he nodded. "For Ultra?"
"You are my future wife, right? I want you looking your best." He grinned. "Not that what you've got isn't nice. But I think you've worn this dress three times before."
