Cassy stayed by me for the rest of that week. Mother said two weeks was her limit and because Liam wanted to come over too, which meant when Cassy left, I was going to be stuck with my brother and his annoying best friend. And I almost thought that would've been the worst, until one very unfortunate day.
It was a little after we came back from shopping, the day Cassy was supposed to leave. Friday, the day I was supposed to see Dylan. Mother had asked me to help out with the groceries and Cassy went to my room to pack her things. But when I returned to my room, Cassy's underwear still hung over my desk chair, her toothbrush and clothing still lay inside my bathroom, and her bag lay empty in the corner where she left it two weeks ago when she first arrived. I thought she must have gone to the kitchen to help my mother with the rest of the groceries but that wasn't where I found her either.
Just as I began the walk back to my room, I heard sounds coming from the bathroom down the hall. They were hushed yet persistent. And they weren't the type of noises one should hear coming from a bathroom. Slowly approaching the bathroom door, I pushed it open and what I saw inside will probably haunt me for the rest of my life.
Cody pressed up against my best friend as their lips fought against one another. And the noises I heard, weren't coming from the both of them. It wouldn't have been so traumatizing if that was how I found them. They noises were coming from Cassy's lips and that was because Cody's hand had snuck its way up her dress and slithered between her legs. And the hushing came from him, because every time Cassy's moan slipped through her lips, it dragged more attention to them playing finger games in the bathroom, and they couldn't have that.
"Oh my god." The words left my lips before I could stop them and brought them out of their little temporary paradise. Except, none of them moved. They both stayed in their place, Cody's hand didn't move out from under Cassy's dress. Cassy's hands stayed tugging onto Cody's dark hair and he still kept his body up against hers. The only things that moved were their heads that darted towards mine and they stared at me. My legs sped into action. I shut the door instantly and rushed back to my room.
She burst into my room minutes later, her face drenched in regret and guilt and Cody strolled in a few seconds later, arms folded across his chest, head down.
"Jane, I'm so sorry–" she cried and reached out for me but I dodged her before she could touch me.
"Don't touch me." I warned gently. The event that just happened a few minutes ago had seared itself into my pupils and I was trying my best to keep my mind and body going at the same speed. This wouldn't be the first time this happened. And obviously, it wouldn't be the last either. "If Cody's hands were up your skirt, I certainly don't want to know where your hands have been." I said and her eyes widened in shock.
"C'mon, Jane." Cody rolled his eyes. "Stop being dramatic. It's not like we were screwing–"
"You might as well have been." I cut him off, which earned another eye roll. I sighed and my hands ran over my face. "Okay." I said, trying to approach this in a different manner. It became clear a few seconds ago Cody and Cassy were a 'thing' that just wasn't going to go away, whether he encouraged it or she did, or they both did. I was just going to have to deal with it. But I wanted to find out a little more before I let them know I kinda already accepted it. "How long has this been going on?"
Cassy took a tentative step forward. "A couple of weeks."
"A couple of weeks?" I repeated, thoroughly shocked. "But that would mean..." My brain pieced the puzzle together. A few weeks ago, Cody went out with someone and he wouldn't tell me who. It was the night Mr. Cavil and the astronauts who landed on Ultra came for dinner, the night I asked Calcus whether he thought I had the body for the poles. And Cody had stated he was seeing some girl and using Ursula as a cover for quite some time now but he wouldn't tell me who. And this was the reason. I gaped at him. "Cassy is your mystery girl?"
