The trip home was quicker and harder than I expected. I didn't want to go back into the dome. After I've been shown a part of the world, I wanted more. I wanted to see what the rest was like. That, and I didn't want Dylan to go home. Or, wherever he went when he wasn't with me. I didn't want this day to end.

After reentering the dome, I slipped on my dress, which made me feel weird and oddly naked even though I wore one every day since I was born, and we traveled back to my house. Well, after a little make out sesh at every corner, we went back to my house. And he didn't hesitate in voicing his opinion before we left.

"We are never doing that again. I've got sand coating my ball sack."

My laughter echoed through the dark warehouse but soon ceased as we exited. The unnatural, shiny sun beamed in our faces and lit up everything in sight. It looked almost too bright compared to the natural sunshine outside the dome. And I started hating it.

I tried not to think about what I would have to face soon. My mother, father, and Dylan when I eventually told him. I tried not thinking about the bad events to come, and tried to enjoy these last few minutes together. Unfortunately, when we rounded the corner across the street from my house, the happy air surrounding us evaporated like it never even existed as many police cruzers parked outside my house.

We ducked back around the corner, watching. Men in dark blue penguin suits and matching sailor hats searched our property and through the front window, I saw my father talking – wait, no, shouting at one of the police guys.

"What is going on...?" I murmured.

"We're gonna have to slip through the back." Dylan said and tried to make a run for it but I stopped him, pulling him back around the corner.

"Do you have a death wish? It's swarming with cops. We'll never make it."

"Fuck." He cursed.

"Look, I'll see you tomorrow, alright." I said. "Go home. I'll go inside and tell them I took a walk to the park or something."

He nodded but as soon as I started walking away, he pulled me back. And instead of giving me a kiss like I expected, he said, "My backpack."

I frowned. Why did he want it so bad? "I'll... bring it for you tomorrow."

"I can't leave it here, Jane." He said firmly and I stared up at him, confused. Once I lifted a skeptical eyebrow, he sighed. "It has your birthday present in it."

"I thought the trip was my birthday present."

He nodded. "The first part of it. The second part is in the bag."

My skepticism subsided. "Oh." I laughed. "Why didn't you just tell me?"

"Thought I'd surprise you. Again."

"I won't look in the bag, Dylan." I said but he frowned as if he didn't believe me. "I promise."

After a while, he sighed but gave me a small nod. "C'mere." He pulled me in, holding me close to him before placing a kiss on my forehead and ushered me around the corner. I was walking on a dream cloud, my problems non-existent until I walked through my front door. My father's angry booming voice echoed inside my head as I walked into the room. My mother was sat on the sofa behind my father, rubbing her temples with the hand resting on the arm of the sofa. But where she just looked tired, my father looked like the psycho convict I saw in him that one night.
