Twenty Six

His eyes searched everywhere the moment they arrived at the reception banquet. He knows that she will be very busy. But the sight of her gave him energy.

Tanya has been talking to him; he could feel that the woman is hitting on him, but he's not interested. He will just reply with a word until maybe she senses that he's not interested in talking. A moment later, she moved away and talked to her friends instead. 

"That lady with Briar—I want to know her name," Lucas whispered.

"Ask Briar; you were friends of hers, right?" He told him.

"I will later," Lucas replied.

"What are you guys whispering about?" Rafael walks towards them.

"Here, Lucas wanted to know who's that woman with Briar," he told Rafael.

Rafael smiled.

"Hmmm. Lovestruck?" Rafel teases Lucas.

Lucas punched him in his arms.

"That's Laly, Briar's best friend. She's a bridal gown designer. Caren is wearing her bridal gown," Rafael told them.

"And Jenny, if anyone is interested, is Briar's assistant and friend. She introduced herself to us at the waterfalls. She's been with Briar from the start. So three of them are buddies," Rafael continued.

"I have a job to do, so guys, stay put," Rafael said, and then he stood up with a microphone in his hand. He didn't notice where Rafel hid it.

Now Rafael is in the middle of the reception doing a toast for the newlywed.

He likes what Rafael is saying. 

After Rafael finished the toast, he called for the wedding dance. Josef and Caren stand up, and some couple followed them. 

He turns his gaze to Briar; she is standing with Jenny and Laly. 

When the music stopped and the MC announced the next event. The four of them listened.

"And for one of the exciting events," the emcee announced.

The emcee is somewhat feminine, he noticed.

The emcee continued.

"The groom will take off the wedding garter and throw it to the bachelors that are present tonight."

The crew put a chair in the middle of the dance floor. Caren sat down, and Josef found the wedding garter in one of Caren's thighs. When he got it. He raised his hand, and the emcee spoke.

"All men gather in that area," pointing to the space in front of the newlywed few two meters away.
Rafael pulled his hands towards the area where the emcee had pointed. Four of them are there with some of the other guests.

"Okay, Josef, about-face and throw the garter behind you. as I count to three. One, two, three. Throw!"

He wasn't aware that the garter aimed at his head. All eyes are on him. His friends teased and punched his arms.

"Lucky man." Rafael nudged him.

They left the area for the ladies turn.

"Now it is the lady's turn. Throwing of the bouquet," the emcee announced. "All ladies gather where the gentlemen have gathered just a moment ago."

All four bridesmaids gathered, and some guests.

He saw that Briar and her two friends stood watching the ladies gathered and all excited. He wished that Briar would join them. Caren might hear his thought. She called the three ladies to join.

"Briar, Laly, Jenna, you three join the ladies," she said.

"Thank you, Caren, but we're not a guest here," Briar said.

But Caren walked towards them. He couldn't hear what she said, but the three women walked towards the ladies, but they moved to the very back.
When the emcee saw that all the ladies had gathered.

"Okay, as I count to three, throw the bouquet. One, two, three, throw!" The emcee shouted.

Caren might have a strong force that the bouquet landed at the very far behind. In Briar's arms. Her two friends clapped their hands and kissed her.

He himself wanted to clap his hands too. His heart swells that tonight will be the memorable night.

"Okay, now Miss Briar Friedmann walks forward." The emcee called her name. She walks forward.

"Now sit down in that chair," the emcee instructed her. She sat down.

"And Mr. Handsome, who has the wedding garter, will you please come forward to the middle?" The emcee called to him.

"Okay, and now, handsome, wear that garter to Briar," commanded the emcee.

All people are cheering. Clapping and his three friends whistle.

He kneeled down and lifted Briar's one foot and put it in his lap. He slipped the garter to her legs until above the knee. His hands trembled. She has soft skin. When Briar stood up, he stood up too and put his hand on her back. Cameras flashed to them. He whispered to her to smile because he could feel that she's so tense.

"Music for our new couple for tonight: Matheus and Briar. The dance floor is yours," the emcee said.

Then the music played. Matheus took her hand and guided her. They danced. He couldn't believe that she's in his arms. He draws her closer to him. He doesn't want this moment to end. This is a haven. He looked at her. Her eyes closed. She's beautiful.

"You're beautiful!" He whispers.

She looked up and muttered her "Thank you!"

She is really beautiful, very natural. No makeups. He won't get tired watching her all day.

"You can bring her home," came the voice from behind. It's one of her friends. 

"Laly, don't say that," Briar said in a whisper but in a firm voice.

The lady just laughs at her.

"Why not? I guess this handsome guy is a bachelor. Wait, are you single, Mr.? "Laly asks him.

He smiles at the woman. She's outspoken.

"Yes, I am, ma'am," he replied.

The two women clap and smile at him.

"We better go ahead, Briar. We will check if there's anything we need to do," Jenny said, holding Laly's hand.

"See you, Matheus. We will continue our job,Laly said, walking with Jenny.

"Nice to meet you again, Matheus. I have to finish our work too. See you later," Briar said. 

"Nice to see you again, Briar. Hope to talk to you again later," he replied.

"Sure will. But now I have to help Laly and Jenny," she replied.

"I understand. See you later then," he said.

The woman then turned and walked away from him. He understood that she has a job to pay attention. 

Watching her while walking, it came back to mind the moment he saw her. He even smiled when he remembered the way she was trying to walk. He knew something was hurting her; that's why she was walking that way. Even so, it's still very sexy. Now that she walks normally, any man would turn their head.
