Ash's POV

"Ash! Ash!" I heard someone scream.

I slowly opened my eyes, adjusting to the sun's brightness and looked at the origin of the voice.

"Mom?" I gasped, my eyes widening at the sight in front of me.

"You're alive? But how?" I asked her.

"There is no time, child. Quickly, get out of the bed right now, we have to go." She told me, pulling my arm and practically pushing me to go outside the house right now.

"What? Wait, mom. Calm down! What's happening?!" I pushed her arm away and looked at her, my heart beating a little faster than usual.

She sighed and ran her hands through her hair and looked at me. "They're here. They're coming for you. We have to go. Now." She sternly told me.

What? I couldn't understand her. Who's coming? For me?

"Wait! What about Xander? My mate?! I can't leave him!" I told her, quickly looking around the room for any sign of Xander. He wasn't here! Where the hell is he?

I started taking deep breaths. What is happening?

"They already left Ash. They all left you. We have to go!" My mom told me, frustration clear in her voice.

"He can't possibly leave me, mom. He can't..." I stuttered, pain rising in my chest at the thought of Xander leaving me.

My mom sighed and hugged me. "Don't worry Ash. I'll always be here for you. Don't worry about your mate. We should focus on escaping rather than thinking about your mate, who is not here."

No. It can't be. This is all a lie.

"Is the mask still with you?"

I looked at my left wrist and saw that I was still wearing the bracelet which means that I still have the mask.

I nodded at her and showed her the bracelet.

"Good... Now..." Her sentence was cut off as the door to the room was suddenly broken down, several men barging in the room holding guns and my mom's screams piercing through my delicate ears.

"It's over now, Melissa (Ash's Mom). Hand Ash over and we'll be gone in a blink of an eye." A man who's probably already in his late 40's and the leader of this group of men spoke, sending fear up in my spine.

Grey strands of hair occupied his scalp and scars of war filled his body and face, making him look really daunting.

My mom suddenly pushed me behind her, her arm protecting me of some sort. She scoffed and said, "Over my dead body."

I looked at her. She couldn't be serious right?

The man laughed and bent over his knees, as if what my mom said was some sick joke.

"You have got to be kidding me, Melissa." He said, still laughing.

As soon as he said that line, he drew out his gun and without hesitation, shot my mom straight in the chest causing me to scream and for the men to laugh.
