"I really like this one." Sarah says, lifting up a beautiful, knee length black dress. I was one of her brides maids and I needed a dress since the wedding is so soon.
"Oh! I really like it!" I say, taking in and talking over the the dressing room. I slip in on and twirl around.
"Come show me." She says and I open the dressing room door and walk out. I notice Sarah's attire. She has gone from wearing her regular high waisted jeans and tighter shirts to blouses and leggings in the past month. Her baby bump was definitely showing now. She gasps and tells me to spin and I do so.
"Aw Sydney, you look so beautiful." She says smiling at me. She turns me to the mirror, hands on my shoulders. I do look pretty in this. "I think you look amazing." She says. "Do you think this is the one?" She asks me. I smile and nod.
"Yep, I think this is the one." I say, grabbing the sides and spinning once again. I love it.
The wedding was coming up fast. Like, really fast. I was going with Charlie as my date. Karen was coming too.
After purchasing the dress, we headed back to the car. As soon as we got in, Sarah puts one hand on her stomach and made a noise. What's happening?
"You okay?" I ask her and she grabs my hand. She places it on her stomach and I feel little kicks. The baby was kicking. I gasp and cover my mouth with my other hand. This is my first connection with the baby, my sister.
"She's kicking Syd." She says happily. She covers her mouth and smiles. "My baby's kicking." She looks at me. "Your baby sister is kicking." My baby sister. The baby stopped kicking after a while and we sat there for a moment.
"Are you nervous?" I ask her. She turns the keys.
"What do you mean?" She asks, putting on her sunglasses.
"Are you nervous about giving birth?" I ask. "Being a mom?" She shrugs.
"The birth? Yeah, I'm really nervous. But I know Brendon will be by my side." She says, smiling slightly. "Being a mom. I'm more excited than nervous. I mean, I have you already." She says, looking over at me. I smile and look out the window. I'm going to be a big sister.
Once we got home, Sarah went to the couch and took her shoes off. "Nope, no more wedges. My feet are on fire." She says and I chuckle.
"Did Brendon tell you where he went?" I ask her and she shrugs.
"I think he went to Dallon and Breezy's. Dallon wants him to learn about kids so..." She trails off. "Do we have any ice cream?" She asks. I open the freezer.
"Yep, vanilla or mint chocolate chip?" I ask her. She lets out a laugh.
"You're really asking me that question?" She asks and I chuckle.
"Mint chocolate chip it is." I say, grabbing a spoon and opening the ice cream container. I walk over and hand it to her. I then sit down next to her.
"You know me so well." She says. I chuckle and lay my head on her shoulder. "I keep thinking about how I'm going to be your mom in less that a month." She says. I smile
"Yeah, me too." I say, watching Bogart chase Penny around the coffee table. "You must be excited." I say.
"For the wedding? Super excited. I can't believe I'm marrying him. I've liked him ever since I saw them live in 2008. Even with the bowl hair cut he had." She said, breaking into a chuckle. "At the time I was dating Jeremy from Paramore." She said, eating some ice cream.
"Wow." I said. We both jumped when the door shut. Brendon was home.
"I'm home!" He shouts rather loudly before walking into the living room and kissing Sarah. "Hello my beauties." He says, kissing my forehead. "How's the baby." He asks, sitting on the other side of Sarah. Sarah smiled.
"She kicked, Sydney felt it." She says happily and Brendon's face softens up.
"Wow, that's amazing." Brendon says, putting his hand on her stomach. His smile grows even wider. He's proud.
•A FEW HOURS LATER•
"Hey Syd, put your shoes on." Brendon says, rapping on my door. I groan and put my computer on my desktop. I look at my alarm clock. It's 7:30 pm on a school night. What is he doing? I slip on my converse and I slip out my door and down the stairs. He was standing at the door.
"What?" I ask him. He opens the door.
"You and I are going on a little trip." He says.
"Brendon, it's a school night." I say. He shrugs.
"We'll be back before eleven." He says, putting his hand on my back and guiding me out the door. "Get in the car, I just need to grab something." He says, patting my back softly. I walk out to his black truck and get in the passenger seat. I wait patiently until he came back with a bag. He set it in the backseat and smiles at me. He starts his car and starts driving.
The radio played softly in the background as we drove. We pulled off and started going down a dirt road. Then we started to go upwards. We finally pull up on top of a hill. He stops the car and jumps out. "Come on Syd." He says. I giggle and open my door. I get out to find we were overlooking all of LA. He hops into the back of the truck and offers me his hand. I take it and he pulls me up. I scoot next to him and smile..
"Quite a view." He says as we watch the city lights sparkle in the setting sun.
"Yeah." I snuggle up against him and he wraps his arm around me. We stay like this for a while, just enjoying the setting sun.
"Why are we up here?" I ask him quietly. He brings his hand to my hair and starts running his fingers through it.
"I just wanna spend some time with you." He says, sighing and kissing my forehead. "With the wedding coming up and the baby on the way, I know we won't get to spend a lot of time together. I know this is probably the last time we will get to do this for a while, Syd." He says calmly. He's right, with all that's going to be happening, we won't be spending a lot of father daughter time together. I sigh, I'm going to miss this. I'm gonna kinda miss it just being the two of us. But who know what the future will hold.
