Chapter 38

"Have a good Christmas Steve." I told him at the airport. He smiled.

"You too Ana." He told me. I smiled up at him before hugging him. He awkwardly hugged back. After pulling apart I saluted him before walking away.

I boarded Tony's private jet which he insisted on me taking.

I should be home around dinner time and besides its date night with Tony.

I pull up to the house and the first thing I see is this giant rabbit in the drive way.

"That's.....something." I said to myself.

I walk inside hearing Christmas music.

"I'm sorry I'm late. I was...what the... What is that?" I asked Tony as he was sitting on the couch in his suit. "You're wearing this in the house now?" I walked further inside and setting my bag on a chair. "What is that, like Mark 15? 20?" He stood up.

"Something like that. You know, everybody needs a hobby." He tells me.

"And you wear your hobby in the living room?" I questioned him as I took my heels off.

"You know, it's always a little pinchy in the gooey bag at first so..." He trailed off as I chuckled. "Well, hey, did you see your Christmas present?"

"How could anyone miss it?" I asked rhetorically. I turn my head and looked up at him. "But how did you plan on fitting it through the door?" I asked him as I picked up some fan mail of his. I saw some addressed to me but mainly Tony. I lightly gushed at one this little boy wrote.

Kids are so cute.

"Well, actually, its a good question. I got a team of guys coming tomorrow. They're gonna blow out that wall."

"Okay." I said as I continued to look at the different pictures of Iron Man and some of me.

It would be nice to have kids someday. I always wanted to be a mother but I just haven't thought of it as much and I don't think I ever told Tony that.

"Tense? ow was spending time with Capsicle?" I felt his hands on my shoulders and lightly rubbed them a bit. "Ooh, shoulders, a little knotty. Naughty girl." He said as I started to relax as he continued to rub my shoulders. "I don't want to harp on this, but did you like the custom rabbit?"

"I loved the thought of it." I told Tony standing up in front of him. "So, why don't you lift up that face mask of yours and give me a kiss?"

"Uh." I heard beeping before he knocked on his helmet. "Yep. Damn it, no can do. You want to just kis it on the uh, facial slip."

"Mmhm. Or why don't I run down to the garage and see if I can find a crowbar to jimmy that thing open." I said.

"Oh yeah." He said as I walked past him. "Oh. Except there's been a radiation leak." He stammered.

He does realize I can tell when he's lying, right?

"I think I'll take my chances." I told him as I went down the stairs.

"That's risky. At least, let me get you like, a hazmat suit you can....or a Geiger counter or something like that."

I saw Tony doing pull ups facing away from me as i walked in.

"Busted." He said letting go and turning around to face me.

"Really?" I asked. I saw the empty plate. "You ate without me already? On date night?"

"He was just-" I cut him off.

"You mean you."

"Well, yeah, I just mean we were just hosting you while I finished up a little work." I scoffed.

"uh, huh."

"And yes, I had a quick bite. I didn't know if you were going to be late or whatever." I rolled my eyes.

"Whatever I'm going to bed." I said turning around.

"Okay. O'm in the wrong here. Sorry. I'm a piping hot mess." He admits. I face him again. "It's bee going on for a while. I haven't said anything. Nothing's been the same since New York." My face dropped. I walked slowly over to him.

"I'm so sorry Tony." I told him cupping his face. "I wish I knew sooner, I-I would've tried to help. We barely seen each other for 6 months and when we did see one another you seemed fine. I should've noticed." I exclaimed. He lightly shook his head. He wrapped his arms around my waist and I wrapped mine around his neck.

"Don't stress out over it. You know the reason I haven't cracked is probably because you came back. I love you. I'm lucky. But, honey, I can't sleep. You go to bed, I come down here. I do what I know. I tinker. I...threat is imminent. And I have to protect the one thing that I can't live without. That's you." I felt tears lightly well up in my eyes. I remove my hands and hug him.

"I can't sleep either." I told him.

"What?" I pull away.

"I can't sleep since New York. I have had nightmares that I would go a few days without sleep. I'd be running on fumes and it came to the point I was put on paid leave until I'm better which I'm not. I'd leave the house and go for a walk to clear my head and distracted myself with work before Fury sent me off." I explained. He leaned down and kissed me.

"I love you." He told me.

"I love you too."I told him.

"We'll figure this out....together." He said. I lightly smiled up at him.

"I like that idea."

"Tony?" I say but he wasn't responding. "No. Tony wake up." I cried out. But he wasn't responding.

I woke up with a gasp. I sighed in relief. I heard a small gasp besides me. I look over at Tony who was still asleep. He made a disgruntled noise as he twitched. His breathing grew heavy.

"Tony." I said. I sat up as scooted closer to him. "Tony." I gently shook him. "Tony." I said louder shaking him more roughly to wake him.

I yell out as i felt a cold hand around my throat, pushing me down.

I heard movement beside me.

"Power down." Tony commanded. I gasp for air as his suit released me. Tony went over and smashed the suit apart. I reached over and turned the lamps on. "I must have called it in my sleep. That's not suppose to happen. I'll re-calibrate the sensors." I stood up out of bed still catching my breath.

"Let me just catch my breath. Please don't go." He said. I shook my head.

"I'm not. I just need a breather that's all." I told him leaning against the wall.

"I'm sorry." He said. I went over to him and hugged him. He buried his face in the crook of my neck.

"it's okay." I whispered.
