"Hey, new study buddy!" I smiled at Hunter who sat in boredom.
"Hey, girl who forced me to be her study buddy" he replied with a forced smile.
"Nice to see you enjoy my company" I smiled even wider, taking a seat across from him.
We were sitting outside under a tree, on a picnic bench. Our brothers were having another volleyball game so we decided to finish our homework together. Well, I decided to force him to finish our homework together.
I was just trying to be friendly with him, as it was suggested by Austin. Maybe his advice wasn't as bad.
"You might actually not be the worst person to hang out with right now" he smiled.
"Why, thank you" I grinned.
"Why are you extra cheery today?" He asked with his eyebrows furrowed.
I fought back a rude comeback.
"I'm just happy..."
"Ok..." He said and looked down at his book, "maybe it won't be that bad." He sounded like he was trying to convince himself.
I opened my book and read the paragraph and filled in the packet corresponding to the chapter.
"Can I copy your packet after you're done?" Hunter tried to convince me with a sweet smile. I wanted to refuse and tell him to do his own shit but I had to take my feelings in consideration.
"Sure" I smiled.
Ugh, so much for being nice to an asshole. To be honest with myself, I still didn't understand why I liked him in the first place.
"Damn, what's up with you?"
"I'm just trying to be nice" I sighed.
"Good, while you're in your nice zone, can I ask you something?" He leaned forward.
Oh god, he is going to misuse my mood and take an advantage of it. I hate him.
"Go ahead, buddy" I smiled.
"So... There is this girl, well you already know her, Stacy. Um, I wanna ask her out to prom, but I don't have any ideas... Help me a little?" He said hesitantly.
"You like her?" I asked just out of curiosity, and a little jealousy.
"Why would I be asking her to prom if I didn't?" He gave me a 'duh' face.
And there went my heart, in pieces.
"If you want to do something big, I'd suggest you do something in public. Like something to make her feel special, not a stupid poster saying 'go to prom with me'" I suggested.
"Be specific, please?"
"How about you announce it on the microphone in the school cafeteria? In front of everyone. Or buy her a dress, or flowers and or some cliche shit" I added, "You should ask a real girl, not me. I don't do cliche."
"Those are actually not bad ideas" he grinned at me, looking up as if he was planning something.
"I'm going to do all the things you said" his grin widened and I choked on my own saliva.
