"Hey, mom," I answered the phone call from Austin's mom.
"Hey dear, is your mom there?" She asked me.
"I'm talking to my mom right now," I joked which caused her to laugh.
"Of course, I'm your mom too. Is your other mom there?" I smiled at her response.
"Yes, I'll hand her the phone. Just a second," I said running down the stairs and giving my phone to mom, who was preparing to make dinner.
They continued talking about random stuff and I sat in the living room, waiting for my mom to wrap up the call so I can use my phone.
"Lee!" Mom yelled out.
"Yes, mom?" I shouted back from the living room.
"Help me pack some food, we're going to Austin's house for dinner."
My eyes widened because what happened in the morning flashed before my eyes. I didn't want to shamelessly show up in front of Casper when he clearly told me he needed some lone time with his brother.
"Mom, call Austin's mom back and tell her we have plans. I don't want to go anywhere today. I want to have some family time," I shouted.
"Are you sure?" My mom asked me and I yelled back a 'yes.'
Half an hour later, my phone started to ring.
"Lee! Austin's calling!" My mom told me.
I got up and walked to the kitchen, mom handed me the phone and I stared at the screen.
"You press the green button," my mom said.
"Huh?" I looked up at her.
"I'm telling you how to pick up a phone call. Press the green button. It seems you've forgotten how to do that."
I glared at my mom and pressed the green button while leaving the kitchen.
"Hey," I told him.
"What took you so long?" He asked.
"I was away from my phone, anyways what's up?" I asked, cutting the conversation short.
"Why aren't you coming over? I know it's you who said no. Your mom never refuses to have dinner with us," he said in a single breath.
"Just want to have some family time, that's all," I simply stated.
"We're not your family? That's not the reason, it's something else, isn't it? Ok fine. Not for me, at least come to see Casper. Seems like you guys haven't met yet."
"It's nothing really. I just don't want to come over today, I want to be alone," I said a little harshly than I should have. I immediately regretted my tone of voice.
I wanted him to be with his brother for a while. I wanted him to feel better. It was starting to kill me that he was feeling this way and I was the reason for it. I don't want him to be like that.
"Oh... ok. I just wanted you to come because I would've loved if we had a gathering while Casper is here, like how we used before he went to the university," he said softly, "but it's ok, not like he won't come back again, right?"
"I'll come," I said, "if you really want me to."
"I'd like it if you did," he said.
"Ok, tell mom that we're coming," I said before hanging up.
I walked back into the kitchen, "mom, let's go to Austin's."
"I knew it, you wouldn't say no to Austin," she smiled at me, "I already packed some foods."
