Percy's POV
The whole room went silent as Dumbledore collapsed to the ground. No one knew where the needle came from. I was posed and ready, my hand on my sword, when a ground shaking howl shook the room. I knew that howl. So did Nico, Annabeth, and Thalia. We were all there the last time.
The howl shook the room again. I readied my sword and stood up. The whole room looked at me. I turned in a full circle, and still couldn't find what I was looking for. Then someone screamed. I found the source of the scream - a little girl dressed as Red Riding Hood - and looked where she was pointing. Right above my head.
"Hello Perseus Jackson."
Dr. Thorn - the manticore - jumped onto the Gryffindor table with the procession of a house cat, not knocking any food onto the floor. He smiled a horrible smile and leapt at me. An arrow knocked him aside just as the hall rose into chaos. All the wizards pulled out their wands and started to fire spells at the unknown monster. That only made him mad.
"Stop! STOP!" Annabeth yelled, pulling her knife out of her belt. She threw the knife at the manticore, hitting it in the tail, and took off running towards Dumbledore. I stabbed Dr. Thorn in the back with Anaklusmos as Thalia shot another arrow into his mouth. Nico was with Annabeth, bent over Dumbledore. I retreated back until I could catch onto the conversation.
"...have to leave him here Annabeth! He's dying!" Nico was saying.
"We can't! He's their leader. Imagine loosing Chiron!" She yelled back.
"I know, but we have to save the whole school. It's what he would want." Nico replied. Annabeth bent over Dumbledore, pouring a potion into his mouth, her mom's shield glinting on her back.
"ANNABETH!" I called over the fighting. She looked at me. "USE THE GODLY WEAPONS!" I called, slicing at the manticore and dodging a spell. Annabeth got the message and grabbed the shield of her back. She positioned it with the spear in the other hand and gestured at me to get back.
I dove out of the way just as Annabeth let out a scream, louder than any scream I've heard before. A golden light erupted from the spear, and the little owl on her shoulder flew out of the room. Dr. Thorn cowered at the sight of Medusa on the shield. Then the most bizarre thing happened. First, a beam of light came out of the spear and completely blinded everyone. Then, Annabeth started to rise. She rose strait into the air, a golden light surrounding her, until she reached about halfway to the ceiling. Then the owls came. Every single owl in what mast be a 5 mile radius came swooping in, attacking the monster.
More and more owls kept coming until there was no monster left. The golden light disappeared and Annabeth slowly lowered to the ground. The owls swarmed out of the windows, and then everything was silent. All the wizards were huddled against the wall. Nico was still crouched over Dumbledore, and Thalia was bent over Annabeth, who was paper white.
"Annabeth!" I cried, running across the room. I pulled my emergency Nectar from my robe, and poured some down her throat. Annabeth coughed and sat up.
"I guess I now know why Mom wanted me to be careful with these things." She said, grinning. I pulled her in for a kiss.
"That was amazing Wise Girl. You would sure be a pretty scary goddess if you were one." I said. She smiled. Thalia tapped me on the shoulder.
"Hey lover boy, I think the wizards need some explaining, medical help, or both." She said.
