Chapter 4

Autumn's POV

I stare at Jason in shock. H-he can't have volunteered, only one of us can make it out. Even if I do win, he will have to die; or the other way around.

He walks up on to the stage with a sorry look on his face. He wispers to me, "I'm sorry, I really am. I had to volunteer. There was a possibility that you wouldn't come back, and I wanted to be with you for as long as i possibly could."

I look at him with a sad expression on my face, "but now only one of us can come home."

His face falls as he realizes his mistake. But he smiles, "we still get to be together. Even if it is for a short time.".

----MYSTICAL TIME SKIP TO TRAIN RIDE----

I stare sadly out the window as we leave district 11. Asking myself questions like; will I ever see this place again? What will my sister do with out me?

I look over at Jason, he is poking his food with his fork, I laugh as he tries to fit a whole piece of bread in his mouth. He looks at me confused, then he realizes why I'm laughing. He chews and swallows the bread (it takes about 2 minutes). We laugh when he finally finished.

And of course at that moment our annoying escort walks into the room, in her shrill annoying voice she asks us our skills.

"Well, I'm good at throwing knives."

Jason looks down at his hands,

"I don't really, uh have a talent with weapons. I didn't really think I would be in the situation so I haven't practiced with anything."

"Well, that's unfortunate, be sure to find something in the training center that you are good at."

He smiles sadly at her as She leaves the room.

"Jase, it's ok you will find something that you are good at."

"But what if I don't! Then I will die right away! We won't have anytime to be together!"

He looks at me sadly.

"It's all my fault. I shouldn't have volunteered that way you could have come home to me."

"It's ok, everything will be ok, we will be fine."

I lean over and kiss him.

He pulls me into a hug.

I smile to myself, "I'm happy we have this last week together if we are going to die."
