Jason's POV

I awake to a loud thump and the tree that I lean against shifts. My eyes scout around the treetop to find nothing but tangled leaves and vines. The sun blazes in the sky near the middle and I discover a small sun burn on my cheek. The tree shudders again and pain radiates through my body to my fingertips.

The tree shakes again and questions pour into my mind. My eyes snap downwards as I see movement. I notice the shining glint of a blade and find a tribute beneath me hacking at the tree I scaled.

The face beneath me seems familiar but not at the same time. But then it clicked. I remember him with the careers as they taunted and chatted about the fate of the tributes they would kill. He practices beside me sometimes during knife throwing, he seemed nice, but they all did.

He is district Four. I can tell by the sea green eyes he has. Also I noticed the symbol of they district on his jacket. He swings the ax against the dying trunk again and another loud thump cuts through the air. What is he trying to do? But then my head clicks.

He's attempting at cutting the tree down.

My eyes grow wide as I just realized what he planned. He planned for me to fall to my doom an from the looks of it he's succeeding.

A loud grunt sounds and I can tell by the frustration in his voice, he doesn't seem to be pleased. A smile crawls upon my face but then falls as I see him reach for his bag then soon pull out some matches.

My eyes grow so wide they almost pop out of their sockets. I spectate as he drags the tip of the match across the small scratch pad and a small fire ignites. He stretches his hand out to the trunk and soon the dry and cut trunk became engulfed in flames.

Flames sprawl on the trunk rising upward towards me. Smoke fumes rise upward, filling my nostrils and making me choke at the air.

I cough loudly and ledge my foot on a branch below me. I hear a sudden crack and my eyes widen. I look down notice the branch slanted with a crack in it. I hurl myself to the next branch, my hand start to tremble and fumble when the branch comes in reach.

Wails of wind gust through my hair as I tumble down the smokey trunk of the tree. Scrapes coat my face and arms as I swirl downwards towards the hard ground. Fire crawls up the tree as I fall down to my death.

Pain emerges everywhere as the solid ground smacks into me. My lungs fight for air because of the impact of the cold and solid ground.

I clasp my ribcage with pain radiating throughout my body. I roll back and forth on the soft dirt. My breath grows heavy and raspy as I cough and choke at the smoke. I rise to my feet with pain emerging everywhere in me. Fire surrounds, crackling and blazing on towards me, covering more ground then before. The fire crackles before me, with the heat and smoke rising to the air. A lump in my throat forms.

I turn in every direction to find flames flickering in the way. Suddenly a giant crack sounds in my eardrum and my first instinct is to throw myself to the ground. I launch myself towards the ground and shield my head from anything that might fall.

A giant crack breaks through the air and a rushing wind that spreads even more heats bursts into the air. The ground shakes beneath my feet as a giant object slams into the ground. It bursts even more smoke out and even more fire spreads around me.

I have no choice...

I regain my balance and recover to my feet. My hand is stained with dry blood and a smokey grey burn. My eyes find a glint of the metal on the soon to be burnt ground and I reach for the ax. I find the handle and clasp it between my fingers.

I latch it onto my belt sling and start at a full speed sprint to the fire. I run over the uncovered ground by the fire and leap into the air when I run out of dry land. I feel like time freezes as I continue through to my path in mid air. The embers slowly cook me alive as I float over the flaming ground beneath.

Pain seems normal to me now as I come into tact with reality and revive the impact of me hitting the hard dirt. My ribs burst out into a throbbing pain that continues as I roll back and forth across the ground.

"Jason!" I hear someone cry. I snap my head to where the voice came from and notice Dawn rushing herself towards me with a panicked look on her face.

"Jason..." she sighs as she embraces me in a hug. Her arms are cozy but also cause a slight pinch of pain. I wince at the grip and pull away. She seems confused at first but then notices all my wounds and her jaw drops.

"Jason! your hurt! what happened?!" she almost screams in a worried and thoughtful tone.

"Well it got a little hot today..." I mention with a smile and look back at the forest fire that's now spreading.

"Here Jason I'll help you up." She straps her arms underneath my back and lifts with with some effort.

I wince again as she nudges me to start walking back towards the camp. I start at a slow pace. The fall must have broken at least something and plus the knife in my back and the burn on my hand and forearm. I'm surprised I'm not dead.

We start to walk through the lively forest that now shines with vibrant types of bright green. Tall and solemn trees, long green stretches of grass, leaves crumbling under my feet. It seems peaceful but we all know its a living death trap.
