Jason's POV
I wake up feeling groggy and heavy. My eyelids feel heavy an big as they try to flutter shut again but end up staying open. The sunlight is beaming through the entrance of the cave making me yawn.
I scan my surroundings and find Annalee and Dawn on either sides of me snuggled in. They both seem so peaceful sleeping but I have to put that to an end so I nudge them gently and Annalee's eyes flutter open but Dawn's eyes stay closed. Annalee yawns and stretches her skinny arms.
"Hey." she says quietly.
"Hey." I answer, my voice still crusty.
We stare into space for a few minutes before either of us say anything. "I'll start making a fire." I grumble.
She gives me a simple nod then jumps up I'm guessing to go wake Dawn up. I stand up and trot out the entrance of the cave to see the sun rising over the horizon letting light pour over the forest. It slashes across my face causing sudden blindness to my eyes but they adjust in seconds.
I scan my surroundings and find the same clusters of trees. They stand tall and strong, rocking slowly in the small breeze. I start at a walk but I walk cautiously. My ax and machete hang ready and eager in my belt while my dagger hides in my belt, too weak for an attack.
I search around for wild life but find nothing but trees. I sigh and prop myself against the trunk of an oak. The oak is thick and tall but is slowly dying. The bark is slowly peeling and what once was probably a soft leaf is now brown and could crumble in someone's hands in seconds.
I hang my head feeling stuck and rack my mind for something to do. A sudden flash of brown fur flies past me in one faded second and confusion strikes me.
A small twig snaps somewhere and my head snaps on the it. The soft brown fur sways in the wind and his small black nose wriggles. The deer trots the other way showing his light brown fur and his head soon snaps in a different direction.
A bush soon rustles and a dark figures removes himself from the bush. His smirk grows wide but the shadows hide everything else. The only other thing showing is his belt of knives glinting from the light hitting them.
Fear strikes me and I see myself shake for a few seconds, scared of his presents. I reach for the handle of ax and find it, the hard, smokey black metal handle. I grasp it tightly and rip it free from my belt. I take a step forward and throw the ax in a spiral motion and the ax whirls through the air. Cutting through the air it eventually finds its target. Its followed by a sharp wheeze and a strong, fierce scream. He clutches his thigh where the ax entered and crumbles to the ground.
Clutching his thigh with his other hand he reaches for a knife with his free one. He clutches a fairly large one with a serrated blade making it even more intimidating. The handle is so thick that if he miscorrected his spiral and the handle hit me, the least it could do is knock me out.
He grasps the knife by the blade and grasps it so hard his knuckles turn pure white like a phantom. With a flick of the wrist, the knife spirals through the air and as my mind stays stunned, my body jumps out of the way of the blade. Sadly I'm unable to control the flailing of my arms and the knife lodges it's self in my lower arm.
It pierces through my skin and a slight gasp of pain escapes my lips. I turn to see the corners of his lips pin into a scary smile. I turn around and start running but run smack first into the oak. I turn my head half way only to see a blade soar right in front of my eyes, only few centimeters away. This is my fate. My life will end here and I will never see anyone ever again. A tear slips from my eye and I scan my surroundings for one last time. The tall pines, the breeze causing the trees to ruffle up and the soft dirt and leaves under my feet. The crunching of the oak leaves and the knife's blade buried in the dying oak, and then an idea clicks.
I snap my head on the tree and start by grasping a stump on the side of the tree. I pull myself up and suddenly a sharp pain lodges in my back.
"Where are you going 11?" he taunts.
Anger boils inside of me and I feel my face grow red an hot. I reach down in my pocket and yank my dagger free. I grab it by the blade and flick it in his direction. I turn around to face the tree and continue climbing. I scale the tree pretty fast, wedging my foot in between branches and grab another stable branch to pull myself up. Soon enough I'm at the top of the tree, propping myself against the thick center of the tree while the intwined branches scratch my face if I move.
Small gaps rest in my view of the branches and letting me peer through at my surroundings.
My breathe shudders as I exhale slowly and attempt at relaxing but instead I find myself dazed in worry. Billions of questions race in my mind, I try to rack my head to find answers but nothing but more questions form from the previous. All they do us stack and stack as I ponder on the questions hardly. The sun is still towering in the sky but shining brighter then before. The shade of the tree comforts me knowing I won't get burnt to the crisp anytime soon but the hasty and venomous murderer strikes fear through me each time I think of his fierce green eyes that pierce mine the first time they met.
I lean myself against the bark of the tree and feel as it scratches my spine. Pain radiates through my body as I press myself against the long stem of bark. I yelp at the pain and find myself reaching my hand to my back to check over the wound. A warm and thick liquid coats my fingers and when I place my hands in from of my face, I see the blood staining them.
I cringe as pain tingles through my body making movement slightly impossible. There is no way I will survive through this.
