“Welcome back, class!” Sir Hank’s loud and enthusiastic voice echoes around the room. The second semester starts today, and for some reason I feel like going home. Most of my classmates are chatty, sharing their precious memories from their vacation this summer.

Looking at my right stands an unoccupied seat near the windows. I sigh lightly and went back to focusing myself to my adviser’s announcement.

“Everyone, I know you’re just so excited to start classes but listen for me just for a second!” Sir Hank tries quelling down the noise that is produced by my classmates. Everybody quiets down after a minute, letting Sir Hank go on with his announcement.

“Well, as you all know, there are two major events that is being held by our school! It’s the sports competition and the school festival. I’ll give Chris the details about both events later on, so be sure to meet me after class, okay, Class Rep?”

I have been listening to him quite well, but something fuzzes my mind making me unable to answer.

“Um, Chris?”

“Hey!” a classmate of mine sitting to my right shrugs my shoulder.

“R-right.” I answered abruptly.

“Did you get that, Chris?” Sir Hank tries confirming my answer.

“What was it again?”

“You’ll meet with me later today, okay?”

“I-I got it.”

“Okay, let’s move on! Since it’s the second semester, we’re gonna do a little switch-a-roo.”

“Switch-a-roo? Can’t you just say changing seat plans?” one of my classmates remarked and the whole class laughed off with delight. I remain quiet and soon find myself looking over that vacant seat once more. Everyone switched places, all except for me, still sitting beside the seat next to the windows per my request which everyone seem to accept. Richardson was now sitting next to me from his last seat being 3 seats in front. Erica was in front of me this time around, with Penelope sitting one seat diagonally in front where Erica was sitting.

After switching places, classes resumed as always. Time seemed to fly by today, and before I realize it, lunch break was in session.

“Hey Chris, wanna go grab some grub at the canteen?” Richardson said, just looking to his left unlike before that he’d have to walk towards my seat.

“You go ahead, I’ll just… go to the washroom.”

“Eh? W-well sure. Be sure to follow us.” With that, Richardson joins up with the rest of our friends and went out the room. Again, I look at the vacant seat next to the windows.

“H-how are you holding up?” a familiar voice asks me.

“I’m fine.” I said with a gloomy tone.

“Y-you sound like a different person to me.”

“Really?”

“Yep, you do sound… a bit Erica-ish.” Penelope butts in, walking towards Erica’s seat.

“P-Penn! I don’t sound like that!” Erica growls at her.

“I’m just kidding! Anyway, it won’t help you being gloomy like that.” Penelope averts her attention me.

“I’m not gloomy.”

“Heh, being stubborn won’t help you.” Penelope remarked and looks at Erica saying, “Come on, Eri. We still need to buy lunch.” She starts walking away towards the door.
