“Come on! Get a move on! Move those legs!” Sir Hank shouts with vigor and spirit. It was Physical Education for our first period on the first day of the week. The sports competition was just around the corner and as our adviser, he is helping us get into shape.
“Ugh, Physical Education for first period sucks.” Richardson complains, gasping as he kept on running.
“Just bear with it, we’ll be done soon.” I was sweating like melting ice. Everyone in our class has been doing running laps around the field for almost a week now, with the girls doing only 7 laps and we, the boys do 15 laps.
The girls have finished up and are now doing stretches. We’ve only done at least 8 laps if my counting is right. It has been a while since I’ve worked out this much. Looking at the guys, most of them are starting to slow down and catch their breath. I went ahead and exerted myself to my limits to run the laps faster. As I did so, I could feel my legs getting numb; having labored breathing as I continue on, I just kept on going on.
Minutes after finishing running the 15 laps, as soon as reached the shades from beneath a tree, I sat my back down the grass, taking deep breaths. I thought I was going to pass out because of exhaustion. Not long after a cold thing touches my cheeks.
“W-whoa!” out of surprise, I stood up only to find Brianna there, holding a water canister in hand.
“Good work today.” Brianna giggles as she stands up, “I didn’t know you were a scaredy cat.”
“I’m not, you just took me by surprise, that’s all.” Brianna hands over the canister which I gratefully accepted. I do need to quench my thirst after all.
After settling down, we both sat down once more under the shades.
“Come on! Just three more laps! Chris’ already done so get those legs running!” Sir Hank remarked.
“I didn’t know you were an athlete, Chris.” Brianna comments as I reply, “I’m not. Well not anymore anyway.”
“Why?”
“I… I don’t feel like talking about it.”
“I see. Even so, you still happen to be in fine shape.” Brianna changes the topic.
“Fine shape? I’m gasping for my breath earlier. I wouldn’t be this distressed about my aching legs and labored breathing if I were in fine shape.”
“Hahaha, relax. I’m just messing with you.”
“Yeah, right. You and your messes.”
Brianna started acting a bit closer to me after I won our duel last week. I did notice it at first and acted accordingly whenever she approaches but over the days that passed by, I gradually thought that she was just being friendly-close, nothing more nothing less.
Not long after, the guys are finally done with the laps and are taking a 5 minute break. Afterwards, Sir Hank broke us all in divisions that focused on each competition that will be held on the sports competition. I was assigned in the basketball team alongside Richardson, who was surprisingly good shooter.
After the division, each of us were to have a practice match on our counterpart team from the girls. On the other team were Penelope and Brianna, who have a good sync with each other.
Not long before the practice match started, Richardson soon sighs saying, “We really have to face them again?”
“Well Sir Hank wants us to train with our counterparts, let’s just play.”
“Alright. But seriously, try guarding that woman with what you’ve got!” Richardson growls and points over at Brianna continuing, “She’s becoming a pain the ass whenever I attempt shooting!”
