Chapter 13: The Unsettling Winds (Natasha)

Lunch break. It was only a few hours when I accepted Class 2-1’s invitation to their guild, the Nova Raiders. Even while having classes earlier, I was still hesitating, as I have been invited by countless guilds before way back to the time the guild update has been implemented and I rejected all of them.

Looking back, I was always afraid of people and because of it, I had a hard time making friends. But, after everything that happened that summer, I feel like I’ve changed somehow. While I was on my way to buy lunch at the cafeteria, Alicia accompanied me there.

“Still, I was really happy hearing you’d come today, Natasha.” Alicia said with a big smile on her face.

“W-well, like I said, I have the time so…”

“Oh, yeah. What’s your avatar name in Grandiel?” Alicia asked peeking her face close to me.

“I… uh… I can’t tell.”

“Aww, why’s that?”

“I-it’s embarrassing so, I won’t. But you’ll see me there don’t worry!” I reassured her.

“Ehh… well you did say you’d go today… okay. I won’t ask anymore!” Alicia, again, shows a big smile.

Along the way, we see Kathy going up the stairs and appeared to be heading up the rooftop.

“That’s… Kathy right?” my thoughts slipped out my mouth.

“Yeah. Is something wrong?”

“Oh, I was just wondering if she was… you know, always that quiet.”

“Looks like you’re saying something from experience.” Alicia was quick to catch up, and I decide to tell her about the time Kathy accompanied me to the school supplies room.

“I see, so that happened. Hmm…” Alicia was loss in her thoughts for a moment and continued on after a while, “Kathy is… well, she’s a timid girl. She helps other people even without them telling her so, but sometimes other people take it the wrong way and tell her she’s nosy. But she isn’t like that! She’s just misunderstood from time to time especially to those who are new to her.”

“You seem to know a lot about her.”

“Of course, we’re childhood friends after all.”

“Childhood friends?”

“Yep, I met her way back from elementary.”

“That’s nice.” I smile a bit when the thought of Chris and Sara popped into my head. Maybe they’re this close like Alicia and Kathy. I was a bit envious.

I soon follow up a question, “But why doesn’t she eat her lunch in the classroom?”

“Oh, she likes staring at clouds. It sounds weird but it relaxes her, I usually join her up there from time to time.”

The thought of Kathy being alone there made me ask myself, “What would Chris do?” He would definitely reach out a helping hand and try to be friends with her. Because I was saved before, maybe just maybe, I could save others too. Like how I help other people out in Grandiel as Yuit, I can do so here in real life as Natasha.

After buying my lunch, I specifically asked it to be placed in a portable box which they use for take-out purposes. Nobody does it that much since it was another additional payment separate from the meal. But I did so anyway, which piqued Alicia’s next question.

“Why’d you ask for a take-out? We can just eat here.”

“W-well… I feel like doing a bit of cloud sightseeing up at the rooftop.”
