It’s been a week since the new student, Brianna Leanson, transferred into our class. That first day, however, ended up with me and her having a duel because of a simple seat. But, looking back at it, that fight might’ve helped her fit right into class.
She was bright and lively, always smiling and cheerful that those around her can’t help but be dragged into this happy atmosphere she was creating. Even Penelope, who was known for being the brightest and energetic in class, have developed some innate understanding with her and whenever they’re together, everything just starts enjoying their time.
But that enjoying part isn’t getting to me. To be frank, after that first day since Brianna transferred, I started attending the committee meetings for the two upcoming school events: the sports competition and the school festival.
Having classes in the morning and meetings almost every other day during the afternoons, it was completely draining enough to make me fall asleep just by lying in my bed. I skipped playing Grandiel sometimes, even when that was the only time I could meet Natasha. She hasn’t been messaging me for the past few days that I wasn’t logging on. Maybe Penelope and Erica explained it to her.
I only have lunch breaks that I can consider my rest period for the day. An hour of just eating and cooling my head off from thinking. I would normally eat my lunch in the classroom, but for some reason, I usually eat around the school courtyard recently. The atmosphere in the classroom isn’t helping me relax it seems.
I must be so tired today that while eating, I dozed off.
I was dreaming of something sad. In my dream, I saw Natasha crying. It was a soft, whimper to be precise enough to make the people around her not to notice. Before I could see any further, I got woken up by someone.
“Chris? Chris?” the girl kept calling, shrugging me as she calls.
“H-huh?” I look around and it was Brianna, “What is it?”
“Not much, I just wanna wake you up since you were eating lunch.”
“Huh. Thanks I guess?”
“You’re welcome.” She sits beside me as I continued finishing my lunch. All the while, she was just there, humming cheerfully as I eat. I wonder what’s got her hyped up.
“You seem to be in a good mood.”
“Hmm? Not that much, I just felt like humming.” Brianna looks at me and asks, “How about you? You seem beat down.”
“I’m just tired I guess.”
“Right, committee stuff huh?”
“Yep.” I sigh and continue, “It’s my job after all. Being the class representative and all.”
“Oh, I’ve been meaning to ask you…” I look at her curiously as she asks her question, “I notice other class have two representatives to share the workload, so why are you doing it by yourself? Where’s the other representative?”
“She’s… somewhere a bit far.” I scoff thinking that I was only dreaming about her a little while ago.
“Is she… the one who sits on that seat?” Brianna looks at me and I nod. Brianna replies, “I see… Sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable.”
“N-not at all.”
“I guess everyone’s missing her too?”
“Huh? How could you say so?”
“When I’m talking with Penelope and the others, I can sometimes catch her looking at that empty seat.”
“Well, Penelope and Natasha are close friends so…”
