I hear someone knock and stand up to see who it is. I open the door to reveal a excitedly smiling Carla and I fake a smile while stepping aside to let her enter our flat.
"Did you make anything for dinner?" She asks and it gets me even more annoyed. An hour ago she was threatening to end our friendship, then she kisses Louis and finally she wonders if I made dinner?
"I'm not your cook, you can make your own food by yourself." I snap and she gives me a weird look before opening the fridge. She sighs and takes out two pieces of bread, some ham and ketchup.
"We'll have to do the groceries soon, the fridge is empty." She states and I shrug before leaving the kitchen and sitting back on my couch. From the living room, I can hear the sounds of the utensils and the bottle of ketchup while she's using them. I wasn't focusing on the show, thinking about a way to discuss the earlier event without creating a big mess. We haven't fought in years and I'm getting slightly nervous by the second.
I hear muffled sounds and she appears in the living room, sitting across from me on the couch while eating her sandwich. We stay silent, watching the news, and I pick on my fingernails to stay occupied.
"I saw Harry leave the flat earlier." I cringe to prevent myself from saying anything I could regret and turn to look at her.
"Yeah, he stayed here for a little while." I'm certainly not going to tell her what happened and what I told him. I'm not the one looking bad here, she is.
"What were you doing?"
"Why do you care?" I snap a little harshly and I see her frown. She places her sandwich back on her plate and put it on the coffee table.
"Kim, don't you remember what I told you a-"
"Shut up Carls, will you?" I interrupt her, surprising both of us. I've never been rude to her, but damn, it was relieving.
"You have no rights to tell me who I can and who I can't spend time with!" I continue, pointing an accusing finger at her.
"But what about The List?" She replies with the same tone.
"What about The List? Don't you dare talk to me about The List while you were shoving your tongue down Louis' throat back there!" I yell back, earning a dumbfounded look from her.
"I-I..You.." She stutters and I let a sarcastic laugh escape my lips.
"Yes. I've seen you kissing him in their kitchen. How could you that? I mean, when I get a hickey from Harry you go all crazy and tell me I'm not supposed to do that and blah blah blah, while you are doing even worse with Louis without a care. I'm not stupid Carls, I know something is up with you. But I'm your best friend and you shouldn't be afraid to tell me what's happening in your life!"
She stays silent, staring at her intertwined fingers. I observe her features, waiting for an answer. I'm trying to fix things up here, and she isn't helping a lot.
"Nothing is happening in my life." She answers with insurance, now meeting my gaze. "He was drunk when he kissed me."
"Then why didn't you stop? You seemed to quite enjoy it too." I place my hand on my hip and she rolls her eyes.
"You know me Kim, I can't deny a kiss. He isn't going to remember it after anyway. So you shouldn't worry about that. I swear I'd tell you if something is important, but there's nothing. My life is like usual and you freak out for nothing."
I soften my features and bit on the inside of my cheek. Maybe I was wrong all along? Maybe there's nothing between her and Louis and I'm just overreacting again? Harry and his suspicions have washed my brain and I've forgotten that Louis was drunk and that he might have done that without really meaning it. Then, I didn't have to break the rules?
