(long chapter yeaaah! )
A man? Who wants my possible disappearance? Why? I don't get it, who did I infuriate so much to the point they want to ruin my life? Even more than it has been already...
"Miss Lane, before I was cut off by one of my men, you were telling me about two friends that had a spare key of your flat." Inspector Higgins says and sits on the arm of the couch. "Coffee please." He tells Amanda and she nods, pouring the dark beverage in one of the few cups that survived the damage.
"Y-Yes, they are my best friend, my brothers even! They'd never do that." I say with my most convincing tone, even though my trembling body is showing the complete opposite of confidence.
"I'd like you to call them so we can compare the hand-print we found and theirs, just in case." My mouth falls as I realize I'd have to drag them into this fucked up mess, even if I'm one hundred percent sure they're not responsible for any of this.
"Sir, it couldn't be any of them. They were with me at London's University for a football match. Well, Lucas Hepshire was since he's the assistant coach." Harry tries to defend them but knows he failed as the officer hands me the phone. I take it in my trembling hand and slowly dial Luke's number. He replies after the third ring.
"Hello?"
"H-Hey Luke, it's Kim"
"Kim! Glad to hear you! How are you sis?"
"Oh..erhm..I'm g-great, you?" I look up and see Mr. Higgins moving his hand in a circle, pressuring me to tell Luke to come over.
"A bit tired because of last night, to be honest. Harry's attitude was quite disappointing, I expected better from him. I guess he told you he's not going to play a few games?" I hear the sound of a car horn and I assume he's probably driving.
"Yeah, he told me about it." The inspector makes a move with his hand, demanding me to pass him the phone because I'm taking too much time. I shake my head no and he glares at me.
"So tell me Kim, what's up with you? You sound weird" I swallow with difficulty and take a deep breath. Mr. Higgins rolls his eyes and mouths a "put it on speaker" before taking a sip of his coffee.
"Hmm...wait, I'll put you on speaker" I say in the phone and hear him say "okay". I press on the speaker button on the telephone and the sounds of wind, cars and horns quickly fill the living room.
"Luke, I have to ask y-"
"Mr. Hepshire, Inspector Higgins on the phone." He cuts me off. I open my mouth to complain, but he silents me by raising one finger in the air.
"W-What is happening? Kim? Who is this?" Lucas' loud, worried voice engulfs the other sounds and everyone in my living room turns around to look at the phone.
"Mr. Hepshire, your friend, Kim Lane, has reported an act of vandalism that happened in her own apartment and we require you to come immediately to her address, we have to talk." The line stays silent for a moment and I start to wonder if he didn't hang up, thinking it was probably a prank.
"V-Vandalism? In her flat? Kim, are you still here?" We can all clearly hear the panic in his voice and I feel bad for worrying him like this.
"Yes, look, someone broke into my place and destroyed everything. They want you to come here to ask you some questions. They want to talk to Liam too, so you're not alone. Please, Luke, come as quickly as you can, it's urgent" We hear a heavy sigh followed by a "Jesus Christ" coming out of the phone and I look at Mr. Higgins who gives me a small nod.
