Eevon
My eyes opened to bright lights. Everything was a little muddled, dulled. I heard a monotone beeping of my continuous heartbeat monitor that attached to my finger. I could see partially out the window to a concrete complex outside. No gardens, that I would have pictured.
Voices from the hall were speaking. "No, but I should have been able to stop it."
"It was unavoidable, therefore you shouldn't feel so down. I've called school and told them you would not be coming today."
"Thanks."
It took some time for me to recognize any of it or even start piecing the words together. I was confused. Nothing made sense.
"Dean?" I questioned faintly. I didn't know if it was him or not.
"Eevon!" he appeared in my line of view in an instant.
"What happened? My body hurts. I don't want to be here," I cried, the bare walls surrounded me, pressing in. The room started to spin.
"You are in the hospital. You passed out after..." he wouldn't finish.
What happened?
"I don't want to be here. I want to go home," I said. My hand reached to grab him, but was tangled in the wires.
"I'll get you out of here soon." My tangled hand wrenched free and grabbed his wrist.
"Promise?" I desperately clinged to him.
"I promise."
A shiver ran through me and I fell back into my slumber. I don't know how long I was out, but when I awoke, everything was fuzzy except a few exchanges between Dean and someone else that were abnormally clear, a dream.
"Do you like her?"
"Where did that come from?" He paused, "Of course I don..." He stopped mid sentence.
"One of your brothers told me."
"Which one? Was it Alex, because if it was..."
"James told me," she interrupted him.
"James?"
She said, "He thought it was in your best interest if I knew. So, why do you like her, Dean?"
"You like me?" I heard myself say. I would have never spoke if it wasn't all in my head.
"Yes," was all he said.
My eyes focused on him, the thought was a nice one to distract me from the pain. My dream ended as my sleep deepened.
Later I was awoken by a searing pain, a nurse was cleaning and rebandaging the whip marks.
When she saw that I was awake she told me in a cheerful voice that I would be released after a few more tests, because everything was healing as it should.
My stomach grumbled for food, even injured it still acted the same.
"You can order breakfast through the tablet on the nightstand." I was told. A bright screen greeted my eyes when I looked that way. It hurt my head, so I pushed it away, at least for now.
