ALEX
I walk into Forever 21, my favorite store, looking to waste my money on clothes I don't actually need as usual. I was still processing what happened with Matt the night before last and yesterday, but I felt pretty settled with what was said. I meant everything I said to him, and I could see in his eyes that he did too. As much as I want and crave Matt to be mine, I need to sort out my crappy life first.
Maybe I should call Brad and see what he thinks of all of this... I mean, I know I'm going to have to figure out what's going on with Luke before breaking up with him and confessing my past with Matt, but how the hell am I going to do it?
I let go of my thoughts and start browsing through their skinny jeans, a girl can never have enough. I glance up at the sign on the rack to see how much the jeans are, only to see a repulsing sight. Ashley with Luke. Does this girl have a thing for coming on to the guys I have feelings for? Only this time, I know she knows about Luke & I.
Ashley is standing near a store with Luke, with her arms crossed over her chest and a scowl over her face. Luke has his back faced towards me, but I could recognize him anywhere. Even his back. I'm trying to make out what they're saying or even doing, but eye-stalking them from another store isn't exactly 'ideal'.
I put the jeans back that I held in my hands, and nonchalantly walk out of the store, a tad closer to where they're standing. I walk awkwardly walk over to a kiosk that sells animal toys and treats, and I pretend to browse as I stare at my two pals across the mall. God, I'm the most awkward person of all time. A part of me wants to go up to them and just be like, "Hey Ashley, what's up? Find another guy in my life to try to steal? And Luke! Trying to act shady again, I see. No surprises here!"
Nothing too exciting is going on with them really, except now they seem like they're yelling and arguing more than talking. I'm a little caught off guard when all of a sudden, Ashley angrily shoves Luke and shoves past him, walking in my direction. My eyes goes wide as I try to think of a way to escape this situation, and more importantly, these two idiots. I pretend to look through some dog collars and take a peek out of the corner of my eye to see where they've headed off to. Luke is no longer in sight, he must've went in the other direction. I don't see Ashley anywhere close either, thank god I escaped that. I smile a little at my victory, and step back from the kiosk.
"Alex?" A familiar voice asks in a high-pitched voice. Well, fúck.
I turn around to my left and see my dreadful best friend, with red eyes and bags under her eyes. She looks skinnier, and like hell if I'm being honest. "Ashley," I reply in a bitter tone.
"What're you doing here?" She steps closer and she honestly looks a bit anxious, scared even.
"Oh, um, I'm just looking for a new dog collar and treats for um, my dog." Way to be nonchalant, Alex.
She gives me a confused look. "You don't have a dog..."
"Well, I do now. It's not like you've been around enough to notice. You've been too busy making out with other girl's, um.." I stop myself as I realize Matt isn't my boyfriend, Luke is. She wouldn't understand.
"Who? Matt?" She asks, still confused. I secretly want to tell her that her blonde roots are showing.
"No shit, sherlock. You know that I have a past with him, yet you made it your mission to get into his pants anyways," I snap. She looks a little taken back, but still steps closer to me.
She looks to the ground and takes a deep breath, before meeting my eyes again. "Please, just hear me out. I had no idea that he was the Matt, I just thought he was a friend of yours. You never even told me he entered your life again, how was I supposed to know that was him?" I nearly walk off right then and there, before her hand catches my wrist and stops me. "Wait, I'm sorry. I know that's not the point. I'm truly sorry, I've been a shit friend and there's no excuse for that. I've just had a lot going on lately. Please, please forgive me. I'll do anything," She softly says with tears brimming her eyes, her chapped lips nearly trembling.
I roll my eyes and shake my head, huffing at her. "I don't know. That was totally uncalled for and you know it. Hell, you didn't even try and call me after that night! You just left it! Ugh, anyways. Let me sleep on it and I'll text you. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some business to take care of."
"Uh, s-sure. Just let me know w-what you decide," She puts on a fake smile and turns away, and I do the same.
What happened to her? A week ago, she was happy and healthy-looking, now, she looks as if she hadn't slept or eaten in days. She lost at least five or ten pounds, her hair was in a matted mess, and her clothes looked as if she had been wearing them for days. And more importantly, why was she talking to Luke of all people? I didn't lie when I said I had some business to take care of, I need to find Luke. Maybe he hasn't left yet, who knows. I pull out my phone from my purse and press on his contact name in my call log.
"Hello?" I hear his deep voice grumble.
"Hey babe, what're you up to?" I investigate.
He sighs and continues. "Nothing much, just out with some friends. What's up?"
"Nothing much, I'm just at the mall and I thought I saw you for a moment, but I wasn't sure," I reply innocently.
"I've been at my buddy Dan's most of the day. Looks like your eyes must've been deceiving you." Oh sweetie, we both know it's not my eyes trying to deceive me.
"I guess so," I laugh. "Well I was wondering if maybe we could do something tonight, or even tomorrow. I haven't seen you in two days, I miss you," I pout. I guess my acting skills aren't so bad either.
"I know, sweetie. I've just been so busy unpacking and helping out Brad, I just haven't had any time for myself. I'll text you later and maybe we can figure out something, does that sound good?"
I walk out of the mall as I'm talking, only to see the bastard himself with a guy I've never seen before, standing by his car. What are they doing? I sit down on one of the benches outside the mall, away from his sight and attention. He has some fúcking nerve.
"Of course, just let me know. See you," I say in a sweet voice. I almost laugh at my own lies.
"Bye, babe." The line goes dead.
I quickly put my phone back into my purse, pulling it over my shoulder and letting it rest on my side. I look back up to see the mysterious guy and Luke out of sight, along with his car. Damn it.
I sigh heavily in frustration, then rise from the bench and walk over to my car. I strap on my seat belt and pull out my phone once more, dialing the one person I know I can count on to help me with this.
"Hey, what's up?" He answers in a sleepy tone. Of course he was sleeping.
"Listen, I'm coming over and I need your help. It's about Luke,"

I feel like this chapter sucks so I'm sorry if it does, since theres not a lot happening. Sometimes filler chapters are necessary though.
Who do you think Alex called for help?
Anyways here is a very important announcement - I will not be posting another chapter for about a week. I will be in Texas, away from home at a camp, with no service or internet. I get my phone back the following weekend so I'm writing the chapter ahead of time so all I'll have to do is post them. Hope you guys don't hate me lol x
