I love this song by Jamie Grace and it is a perfect description of Lolita's journey so far... the lyrics are at the end of the chapter. Thank you for your votes, comments and support in general. God bless.
Ryan sat down next to his three nephews on the carpeted floor where they were playing with different kinds of toys; five year old Nathan and two year old Fredric belonged to Masa Johnson the second born of the family while three year old Phillip belonged to Johnson Junior. His brothers were helping their wives in the kitchen along with the mother of the house to prepare dinner. He had just arrived from work and was exhausted but he knew they might call him back any moment if any emergency crops up. He sighed as he watched his nephews...he too wanted this blessing for himself. Nathan and Fredric looked so much alike with soft brown short hair and equally brown eyes and the well-known dimples of the Johnson men. He chuckled to himself as he imagines what Lolita and his children would look like. Just then the doorbell rang and he shot up and hurried to the front door of the huge mansion that comprises their home at Phakalane.
Lolita entered the ostentatious mansion of the Johnson family feeling slightly intimidated. The two daughter in laws of the family were well known women in their fields. One was a well-known CEO of a successful estate company while the youngest Johnson's wife was an intelligent yet ruthless lawyer at a prestigious law firm in Gaborone. How then was she supposed to cheerfully accept Ryan's proposal? She was a mere teacher with just a first degree. This is why you must go to that prestigious university and obtain your Master's Degree. She muttered to herself.
She wore a brand new yellow knee- length long sleeved dress her mother got her some time ago. It had lime green flower embroidery at the hems and she wore a shoulder – length black lace wig with a left side parting. She applied very little make up and wore her lime green high heeled boots and finished her look with a mid-brief black fluffy coat and a black hand bag with silver chain. Her hands trembled slightly as she pressed the doorbell. Help me Lord, she prayed silently. She smiled brightly as the door opened revealing the equally enthusiastic face of Ryan. He was looking smart in dark blue trouser and a white v-neck vest. His short brown curly hair was cut Military style making him look deathly handsome. Lolita giggled and waved at him.
"Hi."
"Hi." She replied shyly. He closed the door after she got in, hugged her and smiled down at her.
"Am I dressed okay?" He accessed her looks and gave a thumbs up.
"I would have sent my brother away if they were still single." He collected her coat and hung it on the standing coat hanger.
"Come let's go and meet my family." She smiled weakly as her heart summersaulted. She knew his parents were responsible for their "union" but wasn't so sure about their opinion of her after the drama in her family and her decision to leave Ryan just after they began their relationship. She marveled at the opulence of their living room which was thrice larger than her parents'. She was awed by the expensive furniture that graced the room and the jaw dropping chandeliers that lighted the room. She continued to look around and her eyes bulged when she saw the three boys.
"They are sooo adorable Ryan." She exclaimed happily. Just then the rest of the family walked into the living room. Her heart dropped the moment she saw the two daughter in laws...talk about beauty with brains!
After introductions were made, they went straight to the dining table to eat. Lolita watched with pride and admiration as Masa and Johnson Jnr fed Fredric and Phillip while their wives ate. She sure was going to be married into a family of handsome and responsible men. She made a mental victory dance and cheerfully ate her meal. About fourty minutes later, they all sat down reclining at the living room. Masa and Johnson Jnr asked about her life and profession and she replied politely staring daggers at Ryan who was amused by her uneasiness.
