Lolita slept at the hospital while surgeries went on. After a while she asked Kgosi to take his wife home especially since she is a recovering patient and he also needed to bath and change his clothes. He took her advice and they went home. It has been a long night for them; from the hospital to giving their statements at the police station and back to the hospital again.
After five hours in surgery, Chidi was taken to a room in the hospital to recover. His family was informed about it and his mother was going crazy with worry in Nigeria with the rest of the family. "Mummy please calm down."
"He just came out of surgery and they said he will be fine." Lolita called after the Doctor in charge gave her the information.
"Just pray for him to recover quickly. Okay Mummy, please rest well." As she got off the phone she sighed and sat down at the waiting room in his ward and silently gave thanks to God. She does not know anything yet about Lorato and was unwilling to ask after her. She brought this upon Chidi and almost killed her. The girl was a complete mess. She suddenly became angrier. Lorato was probably lying down and sleeping like a baby through her surgery while the aftermath of her actions is causing so much chaos.
Through much persuasion from Ryan, she was allowed access to Chidi's room. She sat on the chair next to his bed and watched the blood drip being passed to his body and cringed. She held his hands and prays he recovers quickly. Few minutes later Ryan walked in with the same Doctor that interrupted their lunch earlier that day.
"How is he doing?" She asked.
"He lost a lot of blood but that is not a problem as he is getting a transfusion now. The gunshot only penetrated his body without causing any damage to his tissues or organs."
Finally out of curiosity, she asked about Lorato.
"The lady is in much worse state because not only was she shot at close range, her two kidneys got damaged so now she needs a kidney transplant as soon as possible otherwise..." The Doctor's voice trailed off.
"I hope she never finds a donor!"
"Lolita!" Ryan cried in disbelief.
"She has done nothing this past month than cause pain and confusion and now Chidi is lying down there while his poor mother is going crazy with worry. She needs to go so that the world can be a better place."
"You don't mean that." Ryan said with worry written all over his face.
With a stern expression on her face, Lolita stood up, picked her bags and left the room.
Ryan excused himself and went after his fiancé.
"Lolita please stop. Wait up." She continued to walk away and as soon as he caught up with her, he grabbed her arm, forcing her to stop and look at him.
"I know she caused you a lot of pain and trauma but now she needs to live."
"Why do you care? Let her die so she could save herself from doing jail time." Lolita said harshly.
"You don't mean that."
"Yes I do! If Chidi hadn't be hurt, I would have even felt pity for her but she crossed the line when she came with that assassin to Desire and Kgosi! She almost killed me Ryan! Chidi's mum is about to lose her mind and God forbid, her only son! And you expect me to feel sorry for her? She deceived him Ryan! I didn't! She could have started with him on a clean slate but she chose this path so do not expect me to act holier than thou and forgive everything."
Ryan let her hand go and sighed deeply.
"Go ahead and save her but leave me out of it." She said coldly.
"You are not like her Lolly." Ryan said gently but she snapped at him.
"Do not use that old emotionally blackmailing tone and words on me Ryan! I am nothing like her and will never be anything like her!" She said angrily pointing her index finger at him.
"You can save her." Ryan said after few seconds of uncomfortable silence.
"Me? Save her? How?" Lolita said with a sarcastic laugh.
"She is of blood group "O negative" and so are you." He began to say,
"And so..." She knew where he was going with his words but she needed him to confess it.
"Your blood types are compatible so we need to do two more blood tests; tissue typing and cross matching."
Lolita glared hard at him and dropped the cooler box she was carrying.
"How can you ask me to give up one of my kidneys for that girl?"
"She doesn't have much time left Lolly. Please save her. There are no available donors with her blood type."
Lolita gave a fake smile and said, "Doctor Johnson, Goodbye!"
"If she dies..."
"What? You will blame for it? Break off our engagement? Announce to the world that I am an evil person? I have every right to feel this way, so go ahead and do whatever you want!" He grabbed her arm once again and softly said,
"I know how you feel Lolly. I do."
She broke free from his grip and left without another word. Save who? Not in this lifetime!!!
